Z, you should tell your parents you are off to France, do you have a mobile that is enabled for Europe? They ought to be able to contact you in case of emergency. But someone, friend or relative, should have your address and itinerary just in case.

I don't expect to know all the details of the sons' lives, but I do expect to be able to contact them if I really need to. After all, it is what they expect from me.

Sea, go ahead and make a sign, but he should make one too, it's only fair. smiley - winkeye

Z, I agree with Caer... just imagine what would happen if one of your parents would become ill, or have an accident, and really needed to get hold of you - just to discover that they can't, because you didn't bother telling them...

Talk to them - they might not be as worried as you think... I remember calling my mother once from Jordan to let her know that we were falling behind on our itinerary, and that we were *not* in Cairo (Egypt) yet, as we ought to have been. I was worried she might fear the worst, since there had just been a serious earth quake in Cairo (autumn of 1992) - but it turned out she wasn't the least bit worried!

She had gotten used to the idea that I was probably quite safe travelling around by bus together with 125 complete strangers (well, they didn't stay strangers for very long, not when sharing a bus as bedroom/living room/kitchen with 1/4 of them 24 hours a day for 2½ months...)smiley - weird

smiley - hug To all that need it.

Sea, I know how you felt I was in that situation, it makes the apologies rather hollow when you know they are going to just go and do it again.

Z, I don't know what its called, but I get a nettle looking rash on my legs that itches like mad. I just assumed it was linked to my excema.

Lil & MR my sympathies, I just don't tolerate rude people very well. and both these men are abusing their position.

Just back from Pilates. The village was swarming with police, Casualty Prevention Unit was written on the side of one of the vehicles. In spite of speed limit reductions, there are still an alarming number of accidents along that road. So I hope their prescence does some good.

Apparently we are going to have a heatwave to see June in. It is supposed to get up to 25ºC on Thursday. Bad news for you, Amy, I suspect.

Pattern-Chaser, you'll get used to us smiley - ok. Are you anywhere near enough to attend the Summer Meet in Nodnol next month? That way you would get to meet some of us face to face. Or is that an alarming thought? smiley - ermsmiley - winkeye

The reason you never heard of urticaria is because no one, not even doctors, actually uses that term. You only read it in books and web sites where it is always written as "hives (also known as urticaria)". When I was dealing with it, I got the impression that it was one of those catch-all terms that is used when what is really meant is "you have hives and we don't know why and it will be too hard to find out, so we will just dope you up on antihistamines and suggest that it is all in your imagination, and if you would just stop worrying about it will go away." That was the treatment I got from my first doctor, but I found another who sent me to an allergist who fixed me right up.

What a nice thought! Thank you. As it happens, I'm not a lover of our capital city, to the extent that my wife's going down there on the 30th of this month, for the weekend, with her mother. They'll be doing open-topped buses, Christopher Robin's guards, and such. I'll stay at home and misbehave...!

I think you're all right, I'm being a bit childish about this. My moblie isn't equipped for Europe, not to mention being expensive if it is,so i think I'll just tell them that I'm not contactable for a week, because I'm in france backpacking, if they need to contact me they can ask my sister to e mail me. I'll give my housemates Terri's name and address before I go.

They'll be fine with that, I told them that I was uncontactable for a few weeks beforehand. They like to think that they're cool hippy style parents that don't worry about us,but they do. I'm just avoiding them at the moment because I never tell them I've had exams unless i've had the results and passed, i don't know why it's just one of my little supersitions.

Glad we've got Urticara sorted out, to be honest I have never heard of hives either. Which surprises me as my mother once livedin a shared house of four middle aged women, one of whom was an allgerist.

I'm allergic to all sorts of things, but I've never had hives - just eczema... from the search I did to find out what it is (didn't know the Swedish word for it) it would seem that those who are allergic to certain foods are more likely to have it than other allergies - and that it looks like the burns you get from nettles... dang - now I've gone and learnt something new *again*!smiley - tongueout

Pattern-Chaser, yes, we all know each other and operate as an extended family and now you're one too. And we certainly do have vigorous conversations, but this is a Wednesday. smiley - silly

Tile #6 has been rendering since about 2 pm yesterday and is now (7:40 am) re-doing blocks; it remembers which parts of the ray-tracing it thought were slightly inaccurate and goes back to calculate them again. Problem is, I don't know how many blocks it will re-do. smiley - erm And this is why I need a second box, to sit in the corner and crunch. The one I gave to Cille was too old to handle this.

I was angry about that meeting for most of yesterday, actually. Seething quietly, I was. The business of this county is in the hands of stupid persons! One of them has handlebar moustaches and, from his speech and jokes, obviously considers himself another Will Rogers. Then there's the petulant one I described yesterday, an Hispanic fellow who seems only semi-literate. There was another elderly fellow who had actually read the material and wanted to follow the law, and a woman who wanted to go with the ordinance because she thought the fiberglass shingles looked nice. The chairman really wanted the county lawyer to make the decision for the council, but Alan (the lawyer) kept explaining that he represented the council, not either of the representatives. He kept telling them that the ordinance was the law and that in his opinion the Lincoln Historic Preservation Board had acted properly, but the militia sympathisers weren't having anything that they saw as trompling on the rights of the little feller.

Several people suggested that I think about running for the council, but I know from yesterday that I could not possibly wrench my feelings around like that, even once a month. I cannot STAND the company of stupid people!! smiley - steam
