I like the Royal Gala and the Fuji, myself.
I've had the same hairdresser for the last 12 years. She's a friend and neighbor and had a little one chair salon in her home. Very convenient. But she finally finished college and has shifted careers. She is now teaching elementary school. This is very good for her and very bad for me. It cost me 4 times what I used to pay to get a cut and color today. While the new person did a great job, I can't really say that I got my money's worth.
Ah, the price we pay for beauty.

Yes, it's Michaelangelo's birthday today; I only realised it when I happened to hover my mouse over the Google logo.
A friend sent me a clipping from the Wall Street Journal dated 27 feb. According to studies performed by NIMH (of the famous rats), multi-tasking can make you stupid. In other words, trying to do several things at once -- like drive and talk on the phone, thinking about a work problem while listening to someone -- is NOT efficient and can lead to short-term memory dropouts and reduced brainpower for handling each of the tasks you're doing. It can also induce stress responses that "when prolonged, can damage memory". The chronic multi-tasker can also develop difficulties in concentration.
I blame MTV.

It really bugs me that I have to pay twice as much for a haircut as a fella, and all they do is trim half an inch off the bottom

Oooo-Errr I tend to Multi-Task all the time, I even find it difficult to *just* sit and watch the TV

My hairdresser has been doing my hair for about 10 years in all. She comes to me and charges far less than a salon, she keeps up to date with the latest cuts and techniques and is the best stylist I've ever had.
She loves animals, has s, s and guinea pigs, adores Cassie cos she sits under the chair and tries to catch the cut hair as it falls. But she is getting married soon and will no doubt be starting a family, so I hope she will still do a few of her regular clients, including me. It takes ages for another stylist to get used cutting my hair.

For quite some time I used to cut my own hair, well I say cut but it was just buzz the clippers round all over. Now I'm back up in sunny Manchester I can get a hair cut for much less so i tend to go to the barber.
I was going to regale you all with a tale of visiting a couple of pubs - both made it into the guinness book of records, one for the longest authentic pub name in england and the other for the shortest. The one withthe longest was having some building work done so it was shut

Multitasking
I am wandering the threads on hootoo, chatting to Mike A on IM and playing Spider while I wait for pages to download.

Multitasking is part of my job. A task that should take an hour will stretch to 4 because I have to stop and do so many other things all the time. A person who can't do several things at once wouldn't last a week in my job. But I wouldn't argue that it affects cognitive function. But then any kind of chronic stress will do that.

Mabey that is why I feel stupider the longer I am in this job. I am usually working on three or four different ideas simultaniously. And it effects my spelling too .

a girl called Ben Posted Mar 6, 2003
I have read that women's brains are wired for multitasking and men's are wired for concentration, because women had to keep track of several small children, and men had to keep track of one large animal. Dunno if it is true.
It took me ages to find a hairdresser I like; unfortunately he is very expensive; fortunately I want my hair to grow anyway!
I am off to visit my Private Life this weekend - so I will see you all online on Monday (unless I nip in tomorrow morning).
Have a good weekend, one and all.

I don't tend to care for hair fashin, my goals in a hair style is somthing that is easy to maintain and looks ok. Because this cost the same as a really difficult trendy hiarcut I tend to wait as long as possiable to make them earn the money
currently doing nothing but reveling in the silence, well and writing this post, we have had houseguests over. five people in my apartment is quite a tight fit. Add to it two electric guitars, an eletric bass, and three amps and it does not leave much floor space.
Spring break starts this weekend but I relly need to buckle down and take a bussiness law test first. *grumbles and picks up intimidating tome of archaic and inscrutiable business law.*

Keeping track of one large animal is enough, IMHO. My head nearly exploded from multitasking this afternoon. Why is it that in the middle of an intense effort that requires all your concentration everyone in the office demands your attention? Why? Why? Why?

Why, d'E? For the same reason possums eat sh*t and cajuns eat possums.....that's just the way it is.

I was terrible at multitasking when I was a programmer. I so ~wanted~ to concentrate on the problem I was trying to solve, but the phone kept ringing -- it was my enemy!

In TAC you get to become a fairly good multitasker due to the fact that you may be working on four or five difficult cases at once. And then the Bat Phone rings... When we get a network down emergency case, they call us on a portable phone in our area. We then find someone to take it and get one with our life. P1 and P2 (high priority cases) are the bane of some engineers exsistance. They tend not to deal well with the stress. And the stress is literally a killer. We lost one engineer about a year ago due to a stress induced stroke on our call floor.
