I have to disagree. IT is not the field to be in right now. Too many qualified people out of work and too many unqualified thinking it is a gold mine who are flooding the market makign it harder to discern the signal from teh noise.

Hands up, how many of us have drunken brothers? *puts hand up*
Strange experience in life drawing group today. After finishing off the body size drawing in the half-hour pose, I had some time left, so I started to draw just her face, which was sideways and foreshortened from my pov. Gay was in a reclining position, half dozing, smiling slightly.
After the timer went off, I remarked how I had drawn a face that seemed accurate, anatomically, but didn't look much like Gay. She came over to look and gasped, "That looks just like my mother when she died just recently!"

I think the situation in the US is worse than here, Marv, but the IT industry ain't what it was, certainly. The salaries have fallen and many companies are not spending as much on their networks.
But having said that there is still plenty of work in the UK, if you are prepared to put in the hours and cope with the stress.
Lil, that is so spooky!

I felt so smart. When I was graduating High School everyone was pushing IT. It was the unlimited job market, everyone who was smart enugh to study Computers in any form would be rich. I could help thinking: they had been saying this for three years. so there are three years worth of people getting close to graduation in IT. So I went for somthing else. Much to my fathers dismay. Then lo and behold the market collapses. Even Dad, who has 3 masters and 20 years of work experience gets laid off. Not that Ia m pleased about my dad losing his job, but I don't think anyone in his company's marketing department got laid of.
He got anouther one within a month or so, less money but no comute and a company car so it worked out.

My brother doesn't drink to excess, but my sister does. I've gotten some pretty weird phone calls.

Everyone on my father's side of the family has gotten a midnight call from Petey (we call him that because my father and grandfather are named Peter and we have to distinguish them somehow). The usual way these are handled is when he asks if it is safe for him to visit the state you happen to be in, you tell him the authorities are still looking for him.
He's been in and out of jails for most of his adult life for one thing or another, so this nearly always ends calls coming to you for awhile.
I certainly hope you're not *this* kind of drunken brother, Phil.

Well, I have been admonished by friends to go to college, today at lunch.

You need to act, Marv. You are a young man, too young to as miserable as you are doing what you do.
I suggest you do the parachute analysis.
*Thinks she ought to do the parachute analysis on herself. Goes off to look up the book.*

You want to know what the sin of my situation is? I really enjoy the nuts and bolts of my job.
Yes the customers can be annoying
Yes it can be stressfull
But it is really a challenging carreer when it wants to be. Thing is the company I work for (not the Borg, mind. The other place) really sucks.

There are plenty of other companies doing similar stuff, Marv. It is scary making the first step, but quietly taking a look to see what else is out there won't harm anyone. You may well find you have valuable skills to sell.
Phil, I keep getting this gut feeling that you should be looking for something outdoors. But I expect that could be indigestion

Actually for the first time in a long time I am applying for jobs out of state, fairly regularly. We will see where that leads.

Speaking of leaving states...
If my goverment follows the current trend I will be looking for work, with little job experience and a fresh collage degree, in forign parts. (Hopefully the whole thing will be academic and I will become a wildly successfull writer, but I allways have a backup plan.)
Where do you guys think would be the best place to settle down? It needs to be english speaking, an I am much too lazy to learn a second language (and trish is dysleix and had a hard time with one.)and high speed internet is a plus
We are kind of leaning towards new zeland.
*Has the feeling of being watched, causually slinks over to the wall and leans aganst a spot affording a good view ofthe room, and close to a door to run away...*
I was, sort of kidding about the too lazy part. It is a bit rusty but I do speak passable German.
