Oh, BB, it was worse than a black eye. The one father murdered the other in front of all the children.

Such is American violence.

i'll admit i have a bit of a temper. but i don't get violent. i channel my agression into other outlets. smiley - smiley

speaking of which, i really OUGHT to be channeling it into an apartment search, but i can't seem to motivate myself to do it. i ought to get a job for the summer too, but it's a bit late for that... *sigh* i'm so lazy.

have to save up money for that new camera i'm going to want... i wonder if lil has heard about them. they've figured out a way to make the entire pixel turn a color instead of just 1/3 of it, eliminating the 2/3 pixel of black space and improving the resolution exponentially. i don't know if that made any sense, but they expect the resolution of these new cameras will rival that of 35mm. this excites me terribly!

Is that the new Sigma digital camera Sea? I've heard some good stuff about that one with it's fancy sensor chip.

Sounds like a fine old camera, just so long as it is not brick sized, as myself and BB will testify smiley - winkeye
On the other topic, it seems to me that while large sporting events get in the news when there is trouble (i.e. Russians rioting after they lost to Japan (I think)) there is just as much, if not worse violence at the local, amateur sport level. There the local derbies really mean something. Its not new mind. I once met a little old lady at a bus stop in my parents town of Newmilns in darkest Ayrshire. She promptly regaled me with tales of her youth, sixty, seventy years before when the boys from one village would invade another. There was no sport involved, but the rivalries, and the violence, still appeared smiley - sadface Sport does channel the aggression these days, but sometimes it still spills over.

GL, I cannot tell you why I am a rabid fan of the sport that I follow. I do know that I lose myself in watching the games as well as following the tides of teh team as they continue on during the season as well as in teh playoffs. I get quite a lot of enjoyment out of watching the games and I get a feeling of letdown when my favourite teams fare poorly. I however do not get violent as a result of it, so the behaivour of the people who get involved in fisticuffs with other parents at little league appals me.

If violence were a part of culture, half of us would be running around in make-believe gun fights. We are so far beyond that!

I wonder if dæmon fights are illegal on h2g2? We could match the two spiders, and the winner could take on the elephant.

Now, I have a question. Watching the news I noticed this thing about the guy arrested in the US for planning to explode a dirty bomb. What I was wondering was whither anyone else felt this smacked of heavy handed propoganda somewhat? Bush is attempting to create this huge new security network to look into every aspect of the lives of Americans and anyone they talk to and "suddenly" a major conspiracy is turned up which proves how necesary it is. How much is this "plot" being talked up do you think?

[BB] Also definitly not here.

Munchkin, I smell rats a go go in this one, I also wonder if it's possible to hold a fair trial of those acused after so much political spam being attached to the arrests.

But, as this new guy is being held under military jurisdiction there is currently no worry of him having any sort of trial at all, apparently. The only one who is getting a civilian trial is your "American Taliban" and I'll be very intrigued to see how that goes.

The "American Taliban" are not mine, nor anyone elses in this atelier (at least I hope not smiley - yikes)

In a strange way, those being held by the military, may stand a better chance of getting a fair trial (in the end) than those in civilian custody.
