In the interests of continuity and as a palliative to our hostess, I would like to announce my latest guide entry "The Sound Of Mucus" (it's about snot) has just been subbed.

What is it about Mondays and calling cards?
I watched Caligula a couple of weeks ago. I had been curious about it since I was about 13 years old, and now I'm not curious anymore. Extremely strange film, you can tell exactly which scenes were directed by Bob Guccionni and edited in. Reportedly Helen Mirren, John Gielgud, Malcolm McDowell, Peter O'Toole etc were all appalled to see the final result. I voted a "1" for it at imdb.
By the way, it seems disproportianally more men vote for films on imdb than women, which kind of skews things. I'm beginning a campaign to get more women to vote for films on that site. Also, I'm trying to get Renoir's "The Rules of the Game" on the list of best films of all time, so go watch the movie and then vote (fairly, don't ballot stuff).
Ok, now I'm done campaigning.

The rankings on imdb are skewed to start off with, because they're all people who care enough about a movie to go to the website to look it up...not exactly your average joe voting.
Also, it's much easier for new movies to get in the top 100...although people do vote for 'classics', many more vote for new releases.
Don't know if this has been discussed before, sorry if it has - anyone seen Black Hawk Down? Thoughts??

I haven't seen Black Hawk Down yet, or Lord of the Rings. But tomorrow is a day off, so I think an afternoon movie is in the plan.
The imdb does weigh the votes, and I believe part of that is to give recent movies a lower rating. But sheer numbers can push a popular movie on to the best movies list, while a classic like Rules of the Game that has a score of 8.3 is left off because it has a mere 900-odd votes. It used to be more accurate back in the good ol'days before Amazon bought it, but it can't be perfect.

If you're in the mood for gore and guns, see Black Hawk Down. It's very much a "Americans are good guys, screw the rest of the world" movie, with not much in the way of plot. In my opinion

Cafram, I see the South Pacific, OK, Australia, has won a "proper" gold at the Olympics (Women's arials, whatever they are) Congratulations
I just turned on the TV to discover Britain has invaded Spain. Apparently, the military clowns were supposed to be landing at Gibralter and got lost. In related news, my home town is being invaded tomorrow by the Barmy Army (English cricket supporters). Oh dear.
Key: Complain about this post
