I wouldn't say that Snape's a really bad good guy, myself. I'd say that he's a villain who knows where to draw the line.

Snape is the one reason that I enjoy the Harry Potter books from a writer's point of view. It's easy to write a villain like Draco Malfoy or Lord Voldemort, but Snape would take serious work to write.

Affi, I agree. As you read through the books, particularly the one that features Sirius Black, you realise that he has a coherent inner moral code. Coherent but quite tangential to most others...

That's what I like about Snape. He's the bad-guy you want to hate, but can't. Well, you can, I guess, but it takes a special effort.

Do you find bad guys more interesting than good guys?
