Accents... My hubby and I chatted up the bartender at Sardi's yesterday. At some times he sounded French, at others it seemed British. And he spoke at least two other languages to the kitchen staff. Turned out he was from Croatia and speaks 5 languages! I truly admire those with a facility for languages.

When I worked in the grocery store, people always used to ask me if I was from Texas. My mother's from Massachuesets, my father was born and raised in Vermont, and I the same as my father.
Then, when I was on the phone with one of my long lost friends online (can't even remember her name, god, she was funny as hell though) in college, she said that she thought I was portuguese.
Not only that, but I sound like a woman on the phone. Very subdued and bit nasal of a voice. I wish sometimes that I could afford some vocal surgery...

Sporky, um, that is very strange.

Sporky, is that European (Portugal) or South American (Brazil) Portuguese?

I have the dreaded Western US accent. Unless I am tired, then the slight texan accent that I picked up from my mother comes out. I also have the utahn tendancy to speak rather lazily. I drop T's from words like mountains. Since I talk to people form all over the world in my work I notice that I can usualy spot a canadian accent.

Well, perhaps the accent in your neck of the woods is the same as it is in mine. I mean we have not proven conclusively that you are not really in Utah...

I just want to re-itterate (sp?) that I do NOT, nor have I EVER lived in Utah! I hereby categorically deny any assertions to the contrary.
Or am I just in denial? Is denial in Utah?

Utah is most certainly in denial..........

I thought Utah was in the Four Corners region. But then, my geography isn't all that good.

Sea, the word 'like' and much much more, is universal among young woman, as this piece tries to explain
Sisters are doing it for themselves. Like, hello? That's so five minutes ago. Don't even go there. In other words, 91ZM, like, brings you the all-girlfriend, zero testosterone, major-hair-and-makeup-give-away, chicky babe CD-spinning Lipstick Lunch. Your hostesses: Lana Coc-Kroft and Nicki Sunderland (otherwise known as "Knickers"). Bit of a scary one for the big radio bosses. How will the road gangs and building site boys who have ZM on all day cope with all this Clinique and clothing promotion stuff, you can imagine them asking. It's all so girly.

As if by magic, or as if Jim Lynn just came in to work, h2g2 has begun to respond normally to my requests for more, ever more. Give me LED's! Give me surreality! Give me the comfortable chat of my friends!
My accent all depends, but it averages out to mid-Atlantic, in the watery sense. Distinct traces of the 14 years spent in England, a definite icing of Florida-isms like "y'all" and "well" pronounced as two syllables.
I heard Laura Bush on tv this evening. That is a Texas accent.
Utah is not in denial: Alexandria is.

And with that, I'm to bed. It's nearly half past one in the morning.
btw, I put a new web page up at my domain, named plot2.htm -- pictures of the property I'm looking at now. Friends from El Paso are thinking about buying that other lot I was considering back in July.
