Dunno how to hotwire diesels, KA, smiley - blush and the steering lock is locked on. I keep the spare key in the kitchen drawer, and so it's now in a storage facility in Leeds. smiley - footinmouth

Plus I've booked theatre tickets in Manchester for Thursday night. It might be simplest to hire from Thursday to Monday.

Actually that's a great idea, Mr D, but not this weekend, I think. I'll be going down fairly regularly though.

Okay, let us know when you'd like to pop over and we'll make sure the flat is at least *vaguely* presentable... have you still got our number?

Oh no, B, that's not good. Wish I could help, but have the mob descending this w/e. In my experience of cars they always flake out at the most inconvenient times, or in my case I fanally get one that works and then I do something stupid to it. smiley - erm

Hotwiring a diesel is quite straightforward- but steering locks can be a pain. Hiring is probably safest.

Morning all! What a lovely day in David-land. I got a name-check on Sarah Kennedy's radio show this morning, I don't start w**k for another fifteen minutes (as the smiley - drumroll Library of Doom owes me about twenty hours) and I got a parcel in the post - tap shoes that actually fit me, which will be a great help when I audition in five days. smiley - smiley

Yay to the generally good news from Affy and B4! Hello to all the returners and the newcomer Rainbow! Happy aniversaries! Must rush off and vote for Hypatia...

Have now reached the faintly enjoyable stage of convalesence, although I did end up in hospital this weekend as the would started oozing. Luckily it turned out to be good oozing, so I'm back at home again now, floating on a waft of antibiotics. Have been enjoying myself studying your working environment, Z. All very labarinthine, I decided smiley - biggrin

I also decided that I could never have been a doctor or a nurse. Haven't got the stomach for it at all.

Hope you're better very soon Solnushka.

Congrats Kat....mmmm money....I'm waiting for a loan that'll be delayed as my LEA didn't send the forms home, so I didn't discover what the deadline was until the day before!!!

Of course being a student you get used to moving stuff around lots, especially in halls, but houses are a lot fuller. I got a lift with Dad when I came back up to Coventry, as he was taking the pick-up on a business trip. VERY useful.

On the subject of books, we found the new Terry Pratchett had been delivered whilst we were out (surprise surprise) or the postman didn't bother to see if we were in: it was under the wheelie bin when we moved it ready for the dustmen this morning. But much excitement at its arrival. Been to the library today, making the most of the 3rd computer room tucked away at the back of the computer centre-emptier.

Fats: mainly vegetable/maize oil for frying, butter/flora for roux sauce - don't use lard.

Ciao Ciao

Welcome back to all the returners *waves*

and congratulations Mr and Mrs D on your anniversary smiley - bubbly

What is it with postmen and parcels? We had an eagerly-awaited parcel arrive on saturday - except that we didn't know it had been delivered until after a conversation with the company who posted it on friday. We insisted it hadn't turned up and they said they were certain it had been sent.

It turned up last night. It was down the side of the house where the postman had chucked it over the side gate and couldn't be bothered to stick a note through the door. We hardly ever go down the side of the house and only found it because J decided to do some random gardening and went to the shed, goodness knows how long it would have remained there getting soaked otherwise smiley - grr

I cook eveything in either Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Butter (except for roast tatties which have corn oil). Yes, I do have high cholesterol (and high blood pressure) and will probably die soon, but think it is preferable to spending years as an incontinent, toothless old biddy in an old people's home. And - it tastes yummy!! smiley - tongueout

Second wedding anniversary eh? That's cotton, isn't it? Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Dreadful and may they long adore each other.

Hello again, Sol, feeling a bit better?

S did something very bizarre and painful last night. He was walking across the living-room, saw he was about to stub his toe on a chair, so tried to stop his leg swinging forward, and somehow strained a muscle at the top of his thigh. We put ice on it at once, but he woke up today so sore and stiff he couldn't get out of bed at first, and now can only walk slowly and carefully backwards, as lifting his leg forwards is too sore to contemplate. This is a dumb way to spend a holiday. Have spoken to pharmacist and got cold gel pack and ibuprofen for him. And now we have to wait and see if it gets better. S bloody furious. S is now attempting to wash up. I think he is nuts. He says standing still is something he CAN do so he may as well stand still usefully at the sink. And to stop fussing.

*goes off to beat own head against wall in agony of frustration*

Right. This time I get to post something! I have caught up with this thread several times before now, but something always happens to prevent me posting...
I had to reinstall Windows on my PC at home this weekend smiley - grr I haven't quite recovered yet.

Hi to Rainbow, Congrats to all who deserve them, and smiley - ok for B4 and Affy...

Sympathy for you and especially S, Ag. That's pretty unlucky...

Oh, and Lard is just like bluergh. When I have my own place, Lard and dripping are unlikely to be permitted space in the fridge. My mother does things with them, though.

Ouch!

But anyway, that reminds me: one of the refs at Shards this weekend was in quite a bit of pain having dislocated three ribs earlier in the week.

He's a concert tenor in his normal life and was singing at York cathedral, he felt a sneeze coming and tried to internalise it. Unfortunately it was a very big sneeze and it whipped his head round causing whiplash and trapping a nerve in his neck. He then blacked out and fell sideways onto a brass candlabra and then onto the font. Needless to say he didn't get involved in any combat at the weekend.

There was also the slightly cruel amusement on Saturday morning of hearing "Atchoo! OUCH! Atchoo! OUCH!" coming from the shower block.

smiley - yikes I've been in productions where people have been injured, but that's seriously extreme!

Well done, Kat.

My name-check was for the Showtime slot (about 7.15 to 7.20) - I was one of the suggesters. So anyone who listened now knows what the 'B' in my username stands for. The odd thing is that I don't really recall asking for that tune, although the smiley - geekness of the message sounds like me!

I missed showtime this morning on account of going back to sleep when I should have been getting up.
