Excellent work, Titania and Springie! Marvellous show!
Can't stop, as my BT connection's suddenly telling me I have to upgrade to a new number, which I do, and then goes on to fail me at connection point. I'm on a connection I have to pay for right now...

Good show! If I get a sateliet dish at home I can get CBC which would let me see almost every hockey game in teh season. Then I could get the Beeb as well to see Red Dwarf earlier. Other than that I cannot justify it so I guess I am screwed. Work is going smoothly on my first day back after a brief holliday. Now I just need another week and then I think I will be happy to be back here/.

No dear, that's quite enough for tonight...
Thanks, Gw7en!

Read any books by Christian Jacque?
And as for sports... figure skating and horse jumping, mainly... although during olympic games, I found myself enchanted by the oddest sports (the ones where I thought Sweden had a chance to win a medal)

Just a quick note to say that I've /finally/ got the new connection to work. God only knows what was wrong with it...
Sports eh? Erm, I don't watch any on tele. My sport of choice outside the house though is badminton, and my sport of choice inside the house is alien hunting in Half-Life.

I assume that you will be cheering for Team Sweden (Svenska) next Feb. If so you will be cheering for Peter Forsberg as I think he is on the team.

From one of the h2g2 cricket forums
The rules of cricket (more accurately called the Laws of Cricket) are actually quite simple:
You have two sides, one in the field, and one in.
Each man that's on the side that's in, goes out and when he's out, he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.
When they are all out, the side that was out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.
Some of those who are in are given not out and one is not out when the side that was out comes in.
When both sides have been in and out, including the not outs, that's the end of the game.
The sport of horse racing is also beneficial to the animals.
By selective breeding, the industry is trying to increase the horses speed, strength and stamina. It also ensures the survival of an animal that technology has overtaken.
One benefit shared by all active sports is that participation adds to human health and fitness.

Hello, all.
(referring to loony's post)
No wonder Cricket confuses me. Prefer hockey myself, though I can't skate and therefore can't play. Been enjoying the Penguins-Caps playoff series recently though on tv.
This is a random question, but I was recently updating my homepage and thought it would be nice to have some graphics put up (my own, I mean) and of course remembered the house rules (not trying to start any more moderation bashing). So I set up a gallery with text links to the pics:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A531659
I was wondering, ezboard is nice for spur of the moment pics, but couldn't an entry similar to mine be set up as a more permanent display for the Atelier's Art?

Thanks, Loony. I fear that I am as lost as I was before, but at least I now know why and where I am lost.
Isn't Vancouver's Ohlund going to be playing for the Swedish Olympic team too? I think that I heard that during the first playoff game. It would be interesting to see the two working together, as they have been so competitive recently...

ddombrow, as I understand it, one reason we can't post out own pictures on h2g2 is, in part, a resource issue. Big storage discs are expensive.
I read somewhere that TPTB are negotiating with the BBC to allow each researcher to display a limited amount of graphics on their Home Space.

I thought that the reason was over copyright not storage. If you link to an external source you are not using storage but you may be using up bandwidth. It is still a major sticking point witht he house rules. One that I do not have a problem with. The only thing I mislike is moderation of posts for anything that involves external sites or urls in posts. The lack of pictures speeds up the site which can be very very slow at times.

dElaphant (and Zeppo his dog (and Gummo, Zeppos dog)) - Left my apostrophes at the BBC Posted Apr 17, 2001
All of the above, copyright, space, and "stealing" bandwidth.
The only difficulty I see with that type of entry is how all these different people would edit it. We really need links in the forums, and now that the debate is settling down, we might actually see some progress in some areas. I expect links in forums will be one of the first things to return, but that is just my opinion.

I'm feeling lucky today. I installed a new 20 Gb hard drive in my laptop and am now using Mac OS X, with no problems except that I can't print.

Well, as I said I'm not complaining about moderation. It's a subject that I am at all costs attempting to remain neutral on.
As for bandwidth, I really don't see how an entry like mine is that much different from linking to a gallery on another site. It is *much* different from having off-site pictures embedded on my page. As for how it is edited, I figure lil would moderate and we'd submit via e-mail or ezboard into a more permanent collection.

I don't have a problem with putting links to galleries on the atelier page. It's just that it's a bit like having a series of empty frames with post-its in the middle of the blank area...
Looney's explanation of cricket is a good example of why conciseness and intelligibility don't always converge on the same spot.
Agreed about horse-racing also being beneficial. The thing not properly appreciated is that horses have been an integral, even essential part of civilisation for nearly 3000 years: it is only in the past 95 or so that we've been without them. That is too soon to be dispensing with our knowledge of how to care for and work with them. But there are fewer and fewer loriners, saddlers and blacksmiths. Used to be, a young man was proud to know how to handle a two-horse carriage, and it was the height of skill to drive a four-in-hand...

Now Blacksmith is a job I'd love to try my hand at.
Always fancied sweating at a nice forge, and turning metal into objects with a purpose, (added to which I've always wanted to make my own sword )
perhaps I'll get a chance one day.

Lonnytunes - Winter Is Here Posted Apr 18, 2001
To hopefully make one of my earlier posts a bit clearer.
As I understand it, Mark Moxon is negotiating with BBC Online to provide a facility to host a limited number of personal graphics for each h2g2 researcher. This is why expensive disks becomes an issue.
Key: Complain about this post
