Second Beerfest

Post 1

Hope everyone can make it - I've gone for a New Year session on Friday, even though I have to be up to go ambling on the moors on Saturday morning. I've selected a few beers for the list, some that received high ratings last time and some new ones, but if you have any suggestions please post them here smiley - ok

In fact, part of me is hoping that Saturday might be better for some people, but Friday worked pretty well last time.

I'm cool with either. I was drinking a local (to the folks' place) ale the other night: Gadd's No 3 Strong Pale Ale, from Ramsgate. Very hoppy for a pale ale and really rather nice, but the chances of anyone finding it elsewhere are below minimal.

It would be good if we could make an effort to seek out some of the beers that only one person reviewed last time, presuming we can't find all six. Our reviews tend to be so wildly differing that it's hard to know whether to trust the one-offs smiley - smiley

Oh, and I should mention for the benefit of Evadne and anyone else who isn't subscribed to the last beerfest thread that the Horse and Groom now has a kind of visitors book at A30528353smiley - ok

They might be wildly contradictory, but we give some damned good review! One can sense the intoxication growing as one reads them.

Personally I think the new six should be relatively easy to get hold of for those of us in England.

They're all up on the page already, matey smiley - ok

I'm open to changes, but I think there's a good mix in there. We definitely need at least one stout and one cider, but those tend to be more regional. We did have a distinct lack of stouts between us last time...

I won't be drinking Weston's, mind you.

Despite the fact that I live but ten miles from the Weston's cidermill, the stuff has a habit of making me feel extremely ill.

In fact, being in a somewhat delicate state after Chrimbo, I might sidestep the ciders altogether.

I reckon I might have trouble getting hold of the SouthWestern brews, but I'll see what Morrisons has got today.

9pm start?

You'll have to count me out on this one. I'll be working from 2.45 until around 11pm today and I doubt I'll be home much before midnight. That's from 8.45pm until around 6am UK time and I'm pretty sure that even the most resolute of you will be done by then.

Best British blues band ever. Bar none. No contest.

And how far did Mick Fleetwood fall from there - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRIT_Awards#The_Sam_Fox_and_Mick_Fleetwood_fiasco_.281989.29

I've been unable to get the St Austell or the Fuller's. But I do have a wide variety of beer alternatives.

I'm sure that Londis is monitoring this 'ere virtual bar and playing with my head.

Yesterday they had Broadside, Pedigree, Weston's Vintage & Black Sheep but no London Porter or Tribute.

Today they have no Broadside, Vintage, London Porter, or Black Sheep but they do have Tribute.smiley - weird

So, my list is:

St Austell Tribute,
Marston's Pedigree,
Adnam's Bitter,
Jennings Snecklifter,
Bateman's Victory Ale,
Weston's Premium Organic Cider.

Should the need arise for me to wander to Fortess Road I might pop in the Threshers, but the chances are really incredibly slim.
