That would really be an awesome idea!
But I'm a little uncomfortable with the govenment dictating what teachers should teach, and how they should teach it. It's why I'm so ed at the No Child Left Behind fiasco- it relies solely on standardized testing, which only really proves that you know how to take a standardized test.

Prehaps we can work with the teachers to see how best to incorporate tese ideas into the taching system... when I say work with teachers I mean the ones still teaching and not buried under burachecy....

Great idea... Also get rid of all standardized tests. Allow the teachers to have tests whenever they like, should they wish. A teacher knows a lot more about a student than a test will tell, but also, the student knows more still. One of the things that really pissed me off in secondary school was when mym mom came home to me after PTMs and thought I had all kinds of non-existant problems whoich the teachers though I had, but I did not. Thank Goddess for college!
Every so often, students should be allowed to grade teachers in various areas such as ability, interestingness, knowledge of subject, etc. Just to prevent unfairness, a teacher will be allowed to draw attention to any students who specifically dislike them before this grading. I had a student teacher for English for a while, and he voluntarily had us grade him. He was great...
Another thing he did which worked wonderfully was actually be original in traching. We were doing Emily Dickinson, and rather than him telling us what she was on about, we were speparated into groups and told to discuss various poems among ourselves to come up with our own ideas as to what she was on about. Not only was this extremely enjoyable, it also meant we did great in test questions on Emily, as we were all involved in the learning and actually knew her poems. Towards the end of this series of classes, the groups wrote down their ideas and these were collated into a booklet, which then went on sale in a local 2nd hand bookshop. THIS is the kind of thinking our schools need.
Also, get rid of all those celebrity New Age lite politicans who say that children should be given all the space they need and all that they aske for. Children need to know that some things are not acceptable by any stretch of the imagination, and that there are other people with real feelings which can be hurt. The best way for children to grow is surrounded by love and interest, so that they are truly happy rather than seeking satisfaction in materialistic ideals. The person who reads my post columns will be familiar with this, but for the rest, we are ebing lured into a state of total materialism and lack of emotions, where the amassing of great wealth and celebrity bodies, coupled with celebrity worship, is the only accpetable norm and anything else is forcefully obliterated. Many religious people (apart from fundamentalists) are fully aware of this, particularly Wiccans and Neopagans.
Success In Life shall be redefined as happiness at the physical, emotional, and spiritual happiness combined.
Uniforms shall be abolished.
Apparently, it is against the rules to pray in some American schools. This rule shall be overthrown, but prayer shall not be compulsory.
All communications should be free; mobile phone companies can make money from selling actual phones, ringtones, graphics, etc.
Let's get rid of the World Bank - it's only helping people like Bush. All inter-country debts are cancelled. Actually, the entire planet shoule be ruled by one fair government with one set of laws, one currency, and always open to challenge. Hopefully, we can eventually reach a stage of mental and spiritual evolution where laws are unnecessary, since everyone just puts the needs of others before themselves, as the Communists hoped for, the Native Americans did for centuries before Columbus, and bacteria have been doing for millions of years.
Before any music band or group performs at a major event, makes an album, or goes on radio or TV, at least 50% of their songs must be originals. They must also all play their own instruments and sing without the aid of technology.

I disagree with you about prayer in schools. As I understand it, if kids want to pray in school they can, the school just can't set aside a time for it. Voluntary or not, if a kid doesn't pray when everyone else does, or prays in a different way, or prays to a different God than the other kids, then that kid is going to get is @$$ beat in the playground at recess. Take it from someone who did pray different.

Yeah, I prefer the idea of a prayer room where kids can go and do what ever in their own way. Did I ever mention my views on having more common sense in the taxation system? In the UK, if you work for the government, i.e. NHS, Police, Civil Service etc. the government give you money, in the form of your pay, and then take some of that away, in the form of income tax. Would it not make more sense to just pay them less and then not tax that income?

You misunderstand me about prayer, I was under the impression it was actually against the rules. I was wrong, so let's ignore me.
Manifesto Ideas
Scandrea Posted Oct 9, 2004
No, it's not against the rules for a kid to go off by herself and pray for a minute or two- it's when they do it in a manner that disrupts everyone else, or bullies another kid in the process that it's against the rules.
Personally, I think religion is not something that should be in public schools. It's a family thing, and a personal choice. If you want your kid to learn religion in school, you need to send him to a private school.
OK! Rant over!

I would like to change this a bit. (We already have 'Free internet access' in the Manifesto. ) How about 'Information is Free' there is no way information itself should be free.
Well ok, some official institutions should keep their information updated with some delay. (Police investiagtions, intelligence service)
I suggest only the extra services to be payed for. Home based wire voice communication free, internet access free. Anything more is not a 'basic' service and could be payed for.
Still reading the rest of that posting. "
