I've been meaning to ask: did he knock any of the skittles over? Because that's a foul shot. smiley - winkeye

I guess the skittles were removed beforehand, presumably on health grounds.

Incidentally, B, have you been visited by any ghosts from *your* past recently?

My life is one long embarrassing moment.

What it mostly embarrasses is other people. I am shameless.

Nononono.
A specific person from your past, trying to get in touch.
Only...

Yes. There has been one. Why?

What do you know of him?

Would this person have a namesake called Judith, by any chance?

Well, my Mum's called Judith. But I just get the feeling you're being cryptic.

This happened about three weeks ago now, so he's had a good first-contact opportunity and I don't really feel too guilty about blurting.

We were driving down Mortal Ash Hill, with the Anchor meltshop looming attractively through the squalls of rain, when the firm’s newly-recruited metallurgist suddenly asked if I knew this guy called you, since I seemed to be acquainted with an unhealthy number of Corus met-persons.

So I said, well, I don’t exactly *know* him, but I could show you a dirty photo if you like. A few hours later, we were able to access h2g2, and pictures from the summer meet. One of these caused the young chap to recoil slightly, and then to go all dreamy and nostalgic.

Pity really. He’d had a promising career for a full three days until then.

Hee hee.

Metallurgist, eh? So he'd have been a Birmingham chappie by the name of...?

(I could reel off the names of all the guys on my course. It'd be easier for you to just give me his name smiley - winkeye)

smiley - ok

Ah, so he wound up in Scunthorpe, did he? If it's any reassurance, if you're likely to see him again, you can tell him that every time I've cleaned my wallet out in the last two years, I've come across his Bournemouth address (which I faithfully kept), and kept it, meaning to get in touch.

Meantime, I'll drop him an email. I take it [email protected] will get to him? Works for my dad, leastways. smiley - winkeye

Thanks for the tip-off, Pin.

Not quite. Not Corus, but our lot, and not Scunny but Sheffield. The visit to Scunny was to introduce him to the customer.

Tragic really, that someone perfectly decent should be fated to meet both of us.

The obvious antidote will be to immerse himself in hootoo, thereby meeting a large(?) number of normal (??) people. I'll remind him when I next see him (c. 10 days time), and you can take it from there. (For some inexplicable reason, our employer refuses to see its mention in these august cloisters of knowledge as reputation-enhancing)

Does this mean I know your father too, btw?
