A Conversation for Talking Point: Ageism

Perspective as well as experience.
When I listen to some youngsters and their problems I sometimes think .... call that a problem .... now this is a problem *produces major life-threatening problem* - like some sort of Monty Python sketch. As we get older we get a better grasp of our own position in the scheme of things - what we would once have thought a major problem is now no more than a minor inconvenience ..... we get our sense of perspective altered to realise that there are only a couple of things in life that *really* matter.
As it says on my PS - Twenty years ago I knew everything about everything but now I'm old enough to know better.

Thats a bit like that Mark Twain qoute:-
"When I was 18 my dad knew nothing, when I turned 21 I was amazed how much he had learnt in three years".
My dad used to qoute that one endlessly. The really annoying thing waas when I "got" it....

Yes, isn't it funny how we turn into our parents no matter how we try to avoid it.
With the aid of those wavy line special effects I can clearly remember back when I was 18 ~~~~~~~~~ I used to argue and fight with my other half over all manner of little things nowadays I just smile ... there are really very few things worth raising your blood pressure for.
It's more important to know you're right than insist other people recognise you're right.

Hmmmm... Well I don't think I have quite got to that plateaux of wisdom yet..... only in me 20s so still a lot of growing up to do though.

Oh, you'll get there .... unless you're a man, in which case ....
It's more important to think you're right than actually be right.

Yeah... and in fact me annd the old man are so similar. He is yet to grow out of thinking he is right all the time. In fact come to think of it I think it is a bit of a family traint. My Grandma is the same as well....

Well, I've found that women do eventually realise that sometimes they can be wrong, but in my experience men never reach that level of enlightenment.
That's why I call my lifemate the *Instruction Manual* he knows everything, has done everything and isn't afraid to share all that knowledge and experience.
It's a man thing I think.

Leave him be.
A little uncertainty is a dangerous thing. It grows.

It does indeed grow ... he started out as a little uncertainty.
Anyway, ageing isn't all that bad considering the alternative is the local cemetary.
