I know what you mean and hopefully Pinniped can help. I don't particularly want to do all the madonna entries on my own was wondering whether writing workshop would be of any use but then again there doesn't seem to be much going on in there too.

Hi,
I'm just chiming in to say I am going to send 'Sholom Aleichem' to PR.
If you want me to withdraw it just bop at note at my PS.
It was a cool project!

I can envisage it now all entries moving to peer review

The 'done too soon' bit has become quite ironic, really...
I lost the will to write about Genghis Khan when I saw there were several really good websites about him already. Seemed a little pointless.

After a too-long absence, I've logged on momentarily to apologise to you all. I did have the best of intentions for this at the outset, but circumstances beyond my control have severly limited my access, and therefore the amount of time I have to devote to this. I've been meaning to come by with an announcement of sorts for several weeks now.
I appreciate all the work everyone has put in to this, but I have no idea if I'm ever going to be in a position to finish the project, and if I were it would be no time in the forseeable future. I feel very badly about this.
My first instinct was to offer it up to any willing takers to finish, and certainly if anyone is wanting to take it on they have my blessing, and a word with the italics may be able to change the ownership of the page.
Alternatively I encourage everyone who has written for this project to take your work (as I see Hell has done, ) and promote it through any outlets you feel appropriate: PR, the Post, the Underguide.
I am sincerely sorry, and I hope that when my time is more flexible I have the immense pleasure of working with all of you again.
All the best for the holidays!

Broe
As someone with a young baby myself, I know that a lot of things can happen beyond one's control. The project was a nice idea, and got people thinking and writing - can only be good.
John - Go for Genghis - he is indeed a fascinating figure, and without having read about his work, I would never have understood management culture in my company.

I hope nobody minds but I have raised awareness with the people of . With the result that the Vogue project and done too soon project (which are featured in my tag) shall be featured in the announcements hopefully gaining people to finish the project.

Hey Broe... Cool seein' you here!
It really was a cool project. And please, don't be sorry or feel bad about it. It was a good idea, but right now you have other priorities. What's the problem? *Everybody* understands that.
All the best,
Hell

Indeed. Nothing to feel sorry about at all. In fact, thanks are due for putting the thing together in the first place, without which I probably would never have bothered to read about some very interesting historical figures. So cheers!

Thanks shagbark!
And thank you to everyone else for your understanding
I'm back, for the most part (finally). I've been poking around seeing what's become of this, and I'm very proud of you all for the fantastic entries that have resulted.
I've rewritten the introduction to reflect the current status of the project (defunct), and I've updated all the links to the entries that have been edited (congratulations!) and published in (again, congratulations!). The links to the other entries all remain, including entries that have been created since I was last in town. I've removed the (user) names for the subjects not yet taken on, so that any interested future passers-by are free to take on the subjects of their choice.
Thanks again to everyone who has contributed. I may not have achieved my primary goal, but the Guide is richer and a little bit more complete for our efforts, so I haven't completely failed.
