For my seventeenth birthday I had the very great privelige of seeing Art Blakey (sans Jazz Messengers) at Ronnie Scott's.
He blew most of the drummers I've seen, before or since, away. And then he unfolded his arms and let loose with the sticks.
Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue and his revolving drum cage was a novelty.
Hi to everyone, how y'all doin?

1) I can't believe this guy hasn't gotten a mantion yet. Every tune is manic, this guy must do an incredible amount of speed to make it through a performance. 'One' is the tune that really shows him off: Lars Ulrich, Metallica
2) His brother gets all the press, but this dude's an excellent musician in his own right. 'Hot For Teacher' opens with him hammering out a beat that sounds amazingly like a motorcycle engine: Alex Van Halen, Van Halen
3) Whoever played drums for Cream. There's one song that involves a marathon 17 minute drum solo, or some such. Give him an E for effort, at least.

I think you'll find that the bloke who played drums for Cream was a man called Ginger Baker. You may possibly have heard of him.
