At a quick glance before IO make tea...

'From the Latin pedestar on foot'

If you read the footnotes a certain way the italics don't show up. Can I suggest you write this as

'Pestar', meaning 'on foot'?

'The seasoned traveler' Traveller?

Back with more later.

Hi Bob (I want to put a waving smiley here, but I don't think we have one...shame smiley - smiley)

First line: 'useing' --> using

"The seasoned traveller would have no trouble following the way because this journey uses several roads that have well placed milestones to mark the way."
I might be being a little smiley - silly but are these milestones there now, or are you referring to the time the entry is 'set' in?

I think it's 'Longthorpe' not 'Longthorp'.

One more thing, it's a little misleading as to what significance the listed roads have. It would be good to say something like:
'The journey runs:
...'
and then have the bulleted list showing the four major roads. Note that includes "On Stane Street from Bosham and Chichester to London".

"Stane Street runs from Bosham to Colchester"
Perhaps you could add 'as a whole' after 'Stane Street' to show that the journey does not follow the road for its entire length.

Finally, the paragraph after the bulleted list would make more sense before the bulleted list since it introduces the part of Britain the route runs through.

First line of 'The Start of the Journey' is rather repetitive, since you mention Bosham and it being on the south coast twice.

Could use something like this to show the places mentioned in the entry spatially and then put a link in somewhere.

It makes sense to link all the entries together like that...perhaps as a university project. I would happily do maps for the other roads if you want.

You sure Banovallum is Horncastle?

Caistor is also in Lincolnshire, but north of Lincoln.

Hello Bob smiley - smiley

Lovely informative Entry, well done smiley - ok

There were four roads used

smiley - tea

<>
House style for figures is up to ten should be written, 11 and over displayed as figures, so:
The journey on foot will take a minimum of about ten days - that's assuming you walk eight hours a day, travelling an average of 32 to 33 miles per day. It is interesting to note that the longest distance between any two points on this journey is the 27 miles between London and Braughing. This is less than one day's travel for foot soldiers, although wagons and carts could be as slow as eight miles a day.

There's a missing closing bracket.

You've used the word "settlement" four times there in three consecutive sentences, could you substitute some other words?

I am not sure of the math mileage, you say 4 miles to Hardham? Then On Stane Street continue north east to Alfoldean 12 miles
To the east to Hassocks 17 miles
Total so far 18 miles.
[Should that total so far be 16 miles?]
Then Alfoldean
On Stane Street continue north east to Ewell 20 miles
To the north west to the temple at Farley Heath 9 miles
Total so far 35 miles. [36]
On Stane Street continue north east to London (Londinium) 15 miles
Total so far 55 miles.

Sorry but I'm a bit confused now, maybe you could explain here or alter the text, then I'll re-read smiley - smiley

the Wash (Metaris Aestuaium)
=
the Wash (Metaris Aestua*r*ium)
although it's "The Wash"
and please put Metaris Aestuarium in italics tags.

Good work Bob, smiley - smiley and thank you for writing thissmiley - ok

The Bannovalum thing...
I've now looked at W*k* (sorry about that), which talks about the known reference being in the Ravenna Cosmography, reproduced on the site you linked.
Though nothing's really substantiated, 'Wall on the Bain' can't be Caistor. Caistor isn't on the Bain. Horncastle is the only substantial place that is.
So I think you're right, and you shouldn't change it.
Pinsmiley - smiley
- Wand'rin Star could probably pronounce on Caistor, as a local. She's very much around to ask, if you're interested. See A397299 - she doesn't mention a name here, which is maybe telling too.
- And I never knew there was another more significant Roman Caistor in Norfolk.
