Potholer Posted Feb 22, 2004
Getting out my fine-toothed comb, I think the opening sentence would be better as:
"The softest audible sound has an energy equivalent to that given off by a fifty-watt...", since '...produces an intensity..' doesn't quite make sense.
In the decibel section, it might be worth mentioning that an intensity increase of 1dB is roughly the smallest audible level change, or that a factor of 10 increase in intensity (a 10dB increase) sounds to us as something like a doubling of volume.
PS.
Are you going to use the external ear/direction-sensing bit? I thought I saw it in the article yesterday (though that may have been my late-night imagination), but it isn't there now.

Thanks!
It should be there, I definitely changed it as soon as you mentioned it. I hope I haven't back browsed and not updated with the new info before I did.

Its the second sentence under anatomy. Would it fit better elsewhere do you think?

Hi again, Mort!
I was so pleased that you used some of my phrasing, that I missed the chance to suggest one small change in the wording. Not necessary, of course; but you refer to the tree-falling bit as an argument - which it certainly can cause - but you may prefer the term 'philosophical question'.
No worries, either way; and Thanks much, for the help you've given me!

When I saw you had rescued this, I remembered the errors of the original entry - looks like you've done a pretty good job of covering them But, as promised, I do have a very small bit of feedback - so picky it'll make you want to slap me.
10 trillion --> ten trillion
3000 miles --> 3,000 miles
fifty-watt --> 50 watt
3 bones --> three bones
You may also want to mention the word ‘ear’ before the third paragraph.
Nice linking by the way. Only one entry you may want to link to- A1002691 Hydrogen
Anyway, nice job Mort!

I thought EVERY NUMBER had to be put in words, wouldnt they be right with fifty-watt?
Actually I think its fifty-watts, but still.... they might think you were being americana rude if you did (oops cheap pop at america!!!)
