So you are most definitely not into reincarnation....
Not that I am...yet......LOL
Glad to see that the thread is still pretty much related to the same subject, albeit a bit mutated...
So if I recapitulate you can :
Say : 'Apres Nous le Deluge'
Just: 'Lie down and get depressed'
Or : 'Make your own tiny little mark without too much hope'
I'll go for option 3, but I admit yours option 1 is still better than option 2...

Correct. It doesn't seem to render me a complete inconsiderate a******e, since I do turn out to have some friends, and some of them are actually fond of me.
Maybe that's because I divide my world into two non-clear-cut levels:
-one that's close around you, improvements in which directly relate to you and those you love, and therefore those improvements are something to try for (not only that, but because they're aimed for such a modest level, they are also feasible)
-a larger one, on which my efforts have no effect, and whose uncontrollable movements would only cause bitterness if i tried, and about which i therefore am indifferent.
ho hum. So far it has allowed me the space to be kind to my surroundings, but not be downed by what's happening in the world.
offering what, Jinx?

SO it turns out we agree on quite a lot of things.
We also found the things that cause us to disagree.
My guess is that the latter are so personal and deeply ethical, that we'll probably not resolve them.
We seem to be running out of intelligent discussion material.
Jinx.. help?

I was watching The Meaning of Life with my sisters and now my 6-year-old sister wants to know what sperm is and my 10-year-old sister keeps saying "Oh, You are so big."
"Every sperm is sacred..."
