That's funny. Babelfish translates "berliner" into English as "Berlin", and it translates "berlinerisch" into english as "berlinerisch" (which typically means that it doesn't recognise the word in that language, ie, German).

Sometimes it sucks being unilingual.

You did, Alien, and of course you are quite right. One would say, would one not, "Ich komme aus Berlin" ? I am beginning to wish that I had never mentioned doughnuts.
As for being unilingual, it is, according to Boswell, a function of speaking a language that everybody else wants to use. Having said which, I still want to know the Latin for 'high heels'(-:

OK, so Berlinerisch isn't correct, as I'd surmised. I guess we'll keep it anyway, since there seems to be plenty of support for it.

When I was in high school I had to take French (mandatory class, as it's our other official language). I, too, barely remember any of it, although I do remember doing well in the course at the time.

Latin would be cool to know, so you can impress all your friends and make them hate it when you start speaking in Latin, so that eventually the only friends you have left are real snooty types that can speak Latin back to you, thus ruining all your fun. And then you don't have any really decent friends left. Maybe Latin would be cool to know as long as you never actually used it in casual conversation.

1) You're really good at Latin.
2) All of the online English-Latin translators suck.
3) You're up to some kind of mischief.

Currently, I'm rather partial to 3.

Actually, I chose #3 because it was amusing to do so and it also does not necessarily preclude the other two possibilities. I think that, deep down, we here at the Church of the Truw Weevil all have some kind of mischievous streak.

OK - so the Weevil Festival of the Ancestors - do we have a date yet? Or is it one of these coincidentally happens around Christmas type things? New Year sounds like a fine time to be celebrating ancestral matters. And the North European warden weevil is so affectionate at that time of year.

The date is January 15, actually. I still haven't gotten around to writing up the holiday. I'm still throwing ideas around in my head, and just as work looked like it was slowing down a little, suddenly I am once again swamped.

But I promise I'll get around to it. I want a new holiday just as much as everyone else in the church (even Zonker ).
