Sorry - got a bit busy, catching up now though!
>So, you treat the basilisk in that way and perhaps grind it down and collect (part of) the product.<
DGI +1. The key missing item there can be answered by 'what is it to "treat?" it'

>>why would anybody go to all the trouble of brewing this stuff up?<<
Why indeed?
Perhaps I would hope to end up with the "Philosopher's Stone"
Oh dearie me, no.

Not a love potion
Something... more practical (if you are an alchemist - and a metallurgist as our Roger was..)

shagbark Posted May 7, 2011
Considering the timeframe prehaps it was gold leaf used in illuminating manuscripts?

shagbark Posted May 7, 2011
Or alternately gold leaf for decorating wine bottles.

Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic. Posted May 7, 2011

On a more tangential note:
The title says "here there be dragons."
and Dragons were notorius for hoarding gold.

in light of post 87
male chickens emerge just as if born of hens and after seven days serpents tales grow upon them... I would doubt if they would lay eggs

I have to ask this. The cockerel's egg, has this a connection with London specifically with the Cockney the name of the Londoner.
I ask as the term Cockney is alleged to be from cockerel's egg, myth has it the cockerel's egg is of no use to man nor beast and so allegedly was the original true Cockney.
Also is this why travellers took a live cockerel with them to protect them from the possibility of attacks from basilisk’s as in some myths a cock crow was said to kill a basilisk .

thinking back to a bumper sticker from fifty years ago
AuH20.
This was in Reference to Barry Goldwater who was running for President of the United States.
His opponents said "In your heart you know he is right-extremely so!!!"
the label of right wing extremist stuck and he lost the Republican Nomination.
Key: Complain about this post
