let me try and be as specific as I am able.
Perjury Act is the criminal law - so it comes under criminal. De Facto.
I just mean it has a sort of civil-sounding edge to it. i.e doesn't sound so serious.

2 -sides to this:
the reputation thing has to do with answering the 1st part of the question - the relationship between the three men and their collective deceptions.
and
The something criminal to do with marriage that isn't a dowry is what one of them was charged with, and cracking that should start to open up the first.

dressing up as women and marrying rich men and then robbing them blind, men unlikely to make a fuss due to the scandal associated, and the implied homosexuality and it being illegal
signing a marrige certificate in the womans place by a man, is making a false statment on a legal document and could be perjury
