QI - Dad! do you know the piano's on my foot?

I cannot recall the name of the instrument for the moment. It may be 'melodiphon' or somesuch. It is the instrument that you wave your hands in front of, and 'sounds' issue from it.
If you try picking it up to play it, it screams like a tortured cat!!!
You can only play it by, as I said, moving your hands NEAR it!!

But you also don't pick up a lot of other instruments to play them. I don't see why they don't count.

this instrument is played by NOT touching it with both hands
large instrument you dont pick up are usually to heavy to pick up, yet you still put your hands upon them to play them.

I don't know why I remember this I used to collect cards of the monkeys and apes that starred in the PG tips commercials. (Brooke Bonde - the spy had a blonde wig, I see to remember.)
I'm sure the back of the cards had these little snippets on and the one for Mr Shifter was something about the chimp had been trained on a real piano and refused to play on the hollow one they dropped down the stairs.

Not a QI?
Damn.
Fair enough.
I'll take that challenge. *puts on his Gyles Brandreth hat and scarf* (you recall the epsisode with the Gerber child on the baby food, I presume?)
The removal men - had a dirty little secret - one of them was a girl!
Further more the chimps names were Sue and Mickey, and they were owned and trained by Molly Winifred Badham, who founded Twycross Zoo.
