Can't remember. There's an article somewhere on h2g2, search 'Mornington Crescent' and see what you get.

Does anyody else think we should have a mini-golf course?

Rankin's 'Brentford triligy( in 4 parts) makes reference to Allotment golf as played by the saviours of mankind(and the local pub)John Omally and Jim Pooley. Instead of the famed Brentford allotment, we could use the various locations if the league as the holes? Any takers?

(The Brentford trilogy has 5 parts)

No, we should have an official golf course.

I'll get this thread started properly with the following books for discussion

Fave Mainstream SF: Alan Dean Foster's "The damned" series.
Humans are invited to join one side in an intersteller war BECAUSE they are brutal savages.

Comic Fantasy: Grailblazers by Tom Holt
The search for the holy grail involves a bunch of incompetent knights, a personal Organiser, An Apron, A pair of socks, and a novel twist on the story of Father Cristmas

Fantasy: Legend/First chronicles/Deathwalker By David Gemmel
Simply among the best in heroic fantasy. A likable hero who has his faults and flaws.

I haven't read Grailblazers yet, I'm currently re-reading Ye Gods. Don't think I've read any of the others either.

I do like Ian Watson, the Inquisitor trilogy is great, David Ferring, who's Konrad trilogy is just 'Wow!' and Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea trilogy, which I belive now numbers 5 books. I think authours should refrain from calling a series a trilogy untill they know that there wont be more than 3 books in it.

I hear that David Eddings is officially going to be classified as a classic author, which very rarely happens to somebody who's still alive. (Douglas Adams was too.)

Not bad for someone who re-hashed the Belgariad/Malloreon as the Elenium/Tamuli changing the names to protect the guilty. The Rivan Codex was a good excuse to get more money for publishing his notes. If anyone deserves the Honour, it's Raymond E. Fiest

Well, I've never read any of his books, but my brother keeps going on about him.

For comedy sci-fi I favour Rankin. For fantasy I favour Gaiman.

I'm not on that one yet. But recuring jokes is one of Rankins strong points.

One of the most recurring themes of Rankin is the Sproutsmiley - winkeye
