Sigh. l hate RL, l do.

llEM? Couple rounds of a good antidepressant, please. Fast-acting, tricyclic if you've got it, and none of that lithium nonsense; my liver's quite ravaged enough, thanks.

For the first time ever at Lords Cricket Ground, music was played during the lunch break. Have the Poms finally found the secret to world cricket dominance?

Well it wouldn't be the first time.

The hood things are called VPBs, for Virtual Plastic Bubble. Except for the light necklace-like air-handling filtration system, they are pretty much invisible.

DD, believe me it is good to see you a happy man! More coffee?

*orders fruit for Ook and an A L Special for herself* I hear from NPR that the Presbyterian ministry has voted to ban any minister who performs a CU ceremony, an issue I'll probably take up at the FFFF if the site don't freeze up in the meantime. Anyway, the first CU civil ceremony was performed at Railroad, Vermont early this morning.

26 people injured and one killed at a Pearl Jam concert last night, in the mosh pit.

Barney's Bucksaws

Hi-whoever's here. Its early here, for a Saturday morning. Coffee please, IIEM. Happy Canada Day, any Cannucks out there. We have a Highland Gathering going today in our town, and a few years ago our mayor declared that it never rained on the Gathering - well, its raining now. However, it doesn't officially open till noon, so Mayor Bud may still be safe!! Are there any donuts? *waves paper Canada flag*

O Canada!

Yes, I brought the donuts, I just didn't unpacck them yet. What would you like?

About the Pearl Jam concert, I'm uncertain about the death toll. It was in Copenhagen.

The rain has stopped here, but there will be no lawn-mowing unless you own a tractor.

Barney, why is Canada Day celebrated today?

I just noticed a forum called "Spike" has joined the 5 Busiest on the front page, so I went off to have a look.

If any entity reading this can tell me that they read the entirety of that thread without skipping a word or emoticon, I will ask Irv to give that entity a special mention on the Cafe's page of Regulars. On your honour, get set, go!

Barney's Bucksaws

Hello Lil. On this day in 1867 Canada officially became a country. In that year the British Parliament passed the British North America Bill uniting Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Upper and Lower Canada (now Ontario and Quebec) into the Dominion of Canada. The first Dominion Day was celebrated on July 1, 1867. Later the other provinces joined, with Newfoundland being last in 1949. Now we are 10 provinces and 2 territories, and they changed the name to Canada Day. *waves flag*

Hi, Barney! Happy Canada Day. I lived outside Ottawa on a farm near a huge bog some years ago. Nice to have those memories revived.
RB, I'm going to look at the site for the festival. Glad you can relax a bit again.

Thanks, ox. It is a relief!
