Basically, it cropped up over at the Atelier. Lil was telling us about the bad day she had, and about the lack of her stuff in print, so she said this:
"I now have the opportunity to apply to some decent academic publications with the Kid material, since True West's credentials have sunk subsequent to Boze's accession as editor.........I'm going to ask Redbeard whether he knows of any likely journals, becuase he's involved in the arts at academic level."
That's the basic gist of it.
I know she has popped off for a few hours to do RL stuff, and won't mind me passing on this info. I'm sure that any pointers towards relevant academic publications would be gratefully recieved by her, and it might give her a boost having a few fresh leads to follow.

Thanks for letting me know, B-17. I'm involved in the arts at the academic level, but not in terms of journals and stuff. But I know some others who are, and I'd be happy to do some asking around. I've got good contacts with the art gallery here, and a good friend over in the English department who's heavily involved with publications.
Well, I've got to go back to using Photoshop and Quark at the same time, for the stage of my work, which means Netscape has to go bye-bye for a couple of hours. Talk to you later.

There you all go talking about me in front of my back again
Better and better about my Billy stuff getting kicked under the table. One of the letters to the editor in this issue is from the author of the lead article in the May issue, complaining about the terrible editing that was done to his ms without consulting him!
I was going to ask RB whether he has a "feel" for the more academic magazines that would cover the sort of thing I've done with Billy, i.e., the reconstruction. The local library is short on resources, to put it mildly. But I think I've dominated the discussion enough with my complaints about Billy.
We should maybe be thinking about what to do with a small herd of gnus. Perhaps, now that I have them on the woods side, they'll just wander through the forest.

Sorry Lil, I hope I didn't offend you by asking GB for you. You did say you would be away for a while, and he was online at the time, also i know he hasn't been by the Atelier much.
As for the gnus, it's a Linux thing I think. However for 'Continuity'
I think we need to speak to Dr John tomorrow.
I will be leaving a message on his page later, as I have a few questions for him anyway. Feel free to add a comment about the gnus.
Perhaps the monkeys will use them as a type of transportation.

Bye lil!
Hmm... I wouldn't mind receiving a grant to come up with some really good art, not the crap I keep turning out. Anyone want to nominate me for one? Better yet, anyone just want to get rid of excess cash to further... me?
Caretaker Counter Monday 12 June 2000
Babel17 Posted Jun 13, 2000
Excess cash? Now that would be a novelty.
You really do have a downer on yourself just now don't you!
There is nothing wrong with your art.
Personally I would send you a few pounds if you could produce a piece for me, you know, a bit like shareware. Unfortunately I don't even know what I want yet
Zit down on my couch and tell me vot is ronk!
Drink while you are here?

*BS walks through the door, somewhat confused by all the gnu hoof prints. Sees B-17 and S in conversation.*
Morning . Looks like you've had a herd of gnus through here.
Double espresso, please IIEM.
*Takes the espresso and goes to sit at his usual table with the papers.*

Morning BS, had a good weekend?
Can I have a double latte please IIEM, thank you.
*goes to sit on the sofa gulping her coffee*
Just coming back from a three-day weekend, so it might take me a little while to get started today

Hi Freedom My week-end was good thanks, one of those where you get a few things done, relax a bit and generally feel it was worthwhile. How about yours?

Freedom Posted Jun 13, 2000
Sounds great. Those are the best weekends
Mine was good as well. Basically, I did nothing except read. Yesterday afternoon I ran out of books so I went and got some new ones.
See, what happened was, I discovered Harry Potter. I borrowed the first one from my 10-year-old sister on Saturday, finished it sunday afternoon, got the second yesterday and finished that one very late last night
IIEM, another latte please. *Yawn*

Morning BS, Freedom. I forgot to put the sign up, but I see you are used to the situation by now
(now logged on from home, so only time to do this really)
*Quick tidy up, clears tables, cleans counter, changes filters in IIEM, washes cups/mugs*
The IIEM is on, the conversation is ongoing, the natives are friendly.
Enjoy
Right, off to bed after a long nightshift. It's 09.45am BST, and I am knackered.
Ciao.

Ah, Harry Potter, the latest greatest thing. I'm going to read them while I'm on holiday next week . Still not sure about reading kids' books but all the adults I've spoken to who've read them say they're great.

Hi B17
Bye B17
As for Harry Potter - they were very good. At first I kept thinking "I know where this is going, how predictable" and then I kept reading only to find that I had been utterly and completely wrong the whole time.
As for them being kid's books, I felt a little silly as well. I got some strange looks reading the brightly coloured hardback on the commuter train. Grownups here are buying the paperbacks like crazy, the 3rd was sold out everywhere
Key: Complain about this post
