*hears demonstrators still chanting up at the Agora*
Hm.
*opens front and back doors*
Give me a hand here Ook, Pierrot. We need to get this lot through to the back where they won't block access or stampede away from the demonstrators...
*Pierrot flies out front door and begins worrying at the small herd, which moves into the cafe*
*the long-armed Ook helps keep the gnus in a queue heading for the door*
*with a brief clattering of hooves, the herd moves through, grunting enthusiastically as they disover the grass*
*Lil closes doors*
Have you heard those people talking outside the front door, by the way? I can't understand anything they've said yet. And I still hear a saxophone.
*sits down behind counter and sips tea*

Funnily enough there is a person in the Gents sitting patiently waiting for requests, they have a tenor sax. So I asked them just now:
request no1: Can you play?
Dr. John, i am currently toying with the idea of getting into Linux.
However I am a bit dubious of partitioning my harddisk and putting Linux on it as I have heard a few dodgy stories with regards to doing this. A seperate HDD would be more preferable, but is not an option at the moment. Any ideas, suggestions. Also there appear to be a few different versions of Linux. Which would be my best bet?
Curious, Scotland UK.

Thanx for moving the gnus, Lil, Ook and Pierrot. The IIEM has been briefed to give you each a suitable reward since I am too tired to even keep my eyes open.
BTW Lil, haven't mentioned it yet but I was sorry to hear about your probs. If you need any editors trampling, just give the word and I'm sure the gnus will oblige.
G'night all. See you tomorrow.

Even curiouser Scotland UK. My ancestors sailed from Bogside Glasgow to Dunedin NZ in 1867. I am unsure if any played the sax but family lore says Great-grandfather Bill played a mean tune on the bagpipes.

B-17, just noticed your post. If you don't mind waiting for 24 hours I'll put together some pointers.
BTW It would help to know a little about your system so if you post details (HDD size, RAM, processor etc) to my home page I'll use them to configure my reply.

The more I think about it, the more I see the mess with True West as a blessing in disguise.
Now it's a matter of determining a new venue. I thought of putting the whole thing up on the web, but I have a yen to see it in hard print.
What happened to the penguin?? *looks around*

Sorry tried posting a few minutes ago, but it wasn't happy.
What I had said was:
"Ah, Looney, the skirl of the pipes!!!
Dr J. thanks, I shall leave a post at your page later. And get back to me when you can, I know you are busy just now
Oh, Looney, Lil just brewed a pot of green tea if you fancy some."
And Lil,sorry to hear about Billy. On top of everything else recently, it isn't something one needs to have happen.

Hi, all!
Can I have a cup of that green tea, please? I've been mainlining coffee all day, and I think I need a change.

Boze Bell is very evidently not buying my reconstruction because the new issue features a lot of putative Billy photos that all have very long pointed chins. In the autumn of last year I was repeatedly warned by an independent researcher that there was a central group who are very possessive about "their" Billy and what is left of his artifacts. I don't want to go to war with that bunch, I just want to have my work accepted or rejected by some feeder of the academic mainstream, not just be ignored as an inconvenient datum.
*sips tea, listening to the gnus munching grass outside and the faint sound of a saxophone from downstairs*

Real life imitates art. On my packet of Dilmah jasmine green tea from which I have just brewed a mug it says "We help our environment by using unbleached or oxygen bleached paper which do not require the use of chlorine or chlorine based compounds in treating wood pulp".
I always thought they used the leaves not the trunk of the tea tree.

Hi, Lil... Sorry to hear about the Billy fiasco. I knew him personally and never thought that he had a pointed chin!
So, what's the saxaphone gnus?

Friends, I need to go away and do telephone things. I'll be back in several hours.

A busker in the gents, huh? Well, restrooms and subway platforms often have great acoustics!
Hi, Loony! Try to avoid reading what's on packets of things. It usually just ends up putting you off the thing you want to eat or drink.

Hi B-17.
Life's a bit crazy, right now. The 56 page program guide that I'm doing (editing, designing, photography, etc., etc.) is due to the printer's in a couple of days, so I'm spending a LOT of time on it, very little sleeping, and only getting to the café when I need to get away from the project or I'll kill myself
That, along with working on the Continuity Page, and watching all the excitement, it about all.
How about you?

Oh the usual. W*** is junk etc etc.
My time on here appears to be becoming less and less. Not good.
I have hardly had any time to do any HTML recently, and for various reasons, which I am sure I have spoken to you about, I have not been able to get in here much. C'est la vie!

Last couple of days I haven't been by that much and I miss it. Then again, I was sometimes spending WAY too much time at h2g2. ... Probably part of the reason I'm so swamped right now? Naw, let's not talk about that
Hey... it just occurred to me. It's Monday. Are we still on parsnips?
*realizes that such a statement may sound... well, uh... odd to anyone else *

Babel17 Posted Jun 12, 2000
It would appear so, as Phil hasn't updated his homepage yet, so no clues as to where we are off to next.
I hope it is somewhere good. At least the Parsnips provoked quite a mixed reaction
Lil had a question for you, but I don't know whether she has asked you elsewhere. It is to do with her Billy stuff.

Definitely mixed on the parsnips
I read some of the backlog and heard about the publication woes, but no, I don't believe she's asked me anything about it. I'm happy to help out with whatever.
Key: Complain about this post
