Irving Washington - Gone Writing Posted Jun 12, 2000
A postman walks by and delivers a postcard from Irving! It has a picture of Phoenix's skyline as seen from the top of Camelback Mountain looking south at night. The entire valley below is bathed in man made light and as result, no stars are seen in the sky. This is exactly what the Astronomers at Kitt's Peak in Tucson mean when they complain about light pollution from Phoenix. The card reads:
Still in Phoenix, preparing for the big road trip. I'm dropping in tomorrow morning to update the main page with a few new regulars and a few new drink specials. I've just been cast in a play and in general my summer is looking great. The play is Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest", and if anyone has any hints on how to sound like a British upper-class Victorian-Era snob, please send them to me at my homepage because I'm playing Algernon.
I've heard tell of some races coming up, so I hope you'll all keep me posted on that. See you all soon!
~Irving

Hi Babel, Hi Looney. It has been a very quiet weekend indeed, but that doesn't do me any harm, because now I'm finally catching up on sleep and seem to need lots more of it!
I think we won't have the races till the weekend, because we'll want a large crowd and plenty of notice for the starting gun. I just read in the feedback frenzy forum that on another forum they are playing a sentence game where each researcher contributes one word with the aim of making a sentence as long as possible. Let's have a separate thread if we're going to do that!!!
*Yawns widely* Just to be ethnocentric, I will start a new thread for Monday at midnight for MY time zone.

Sporky, we just don't talk about those things in public. Don't be encouraging the IIEM or it will be down in the gents -- or ladies -- writing stupid limericks....
I keep dozing off, today was so quiet.

But he (yes, I thought it a he, but I didn't want to jump to conclusions) was just telling me how fretfully boring it was. He went on a rant then, going about spurting something like: "Brain the size of a ..." I couldn't catch the rest as I needed a refill on my

Lil, you are correct in assuming that the penguin was a relation of Tux, the Linux penguin. It has now been joined by a small herd of Gnus!
Owing to RL work commitments, I won't be online as much as I would like over the next few weeks but I will try to post to the Cafe at least once a day.
Cappucino to go please,IIEM.
