A Conversation for The Café
Coffee Shop Chess
Afgncaap5 Started conversation Dec 12, 1999
Okay, I'm gonna be a regular here whether you like it or not! Anyway, what coffee shop is complete without a guy staring at a chess board for two hours without doing anything? I'll be that guy. Anyone up for a game? I'll only play one person at a time, and because I'm extremely selfish, I want to be white for this game. I play by the USCF rules, so once you touch a piece, you have to move it! Now, set up your board (remember, I only play against the first person who signs up, and I might take a while to respond.) Now that the board's set up, I'll make my first move: d4. For those of you who aren't familiar with algebraic chess notation, I just move the pawn in front of the queen forward two spaces. Now, first come first serve, so hurry up. Make yer move!

I'm getting my board and figuring out algebraic notation. I'll be along in a bit.

I haven't played in a while either, so I thought the best challenge would be in a coffee shop. That's where I've played a good deal of my chess. I learned a lot of chess in coffee shops, too, but I'm afraid I've started forgetting a bit of it. I really need to start playing more often. Anyways, :

C3. I know, I know, I'm suicidal. I hold the patent on bad moves.

I'm not sure if you are suicidal or just crazy enough to do it. But .....

A nice cup of tea or some hot cocoa would be great.
