I see it's been a while since any new posts have popped up here. Just wanted to add something to see if I can kick-start this little niche of H2G2 again.

Sorry, being in the US, I don't get to sign on until a little later on in the day.
I just wanted to get this forum active again. There are times when reading various posts, I feel rather left out being an American and a Christian. There's a lot of anger out there, and I wanted someplace to go where I could feel a warm welcome when I'm feeling down.
We can talk about whatever you'd like, though.

I'm in the US too...
But it doesn't stop me from getting on here before the crack of dawn most days!
Let's see, what should we talk about?

Well, I just saw your home page...
We could talk about faith like this page exists for. Or we could talk about the fact that I'm originally from Philadelphia and went to school at Franklin and Marshall, in your neck of the woods.

Well, that's actually where I became a Christian. Thanks to the friends I had, I slowly turned from Agnosticism/Theism to true Christianity.
I wasn't really ready to witness to anyone until it was rather late in my education, but I didn't find it too difficult to talk to others about it.
Looking back, college was a rather... well, depraved but very active place. I was glad in a sense to be done, but sad that I had missed out on a number of opportunities to go in with my eyes open.

What was it about your friends that made you turn to Christianity?

You were at F&M?!?!? When?
We lived about 1-1/2 blocks from there for about 5 years - between F&M and Hildy's... Did you spend some of your "depraved" time at Hildy's?

Found this thread again, abandoned for 2 months. Getting it going again...
I spoke to your daughter on H2G2 very briefly once upon a time, Lady Scott. I was at F&M in classes from Aug. '96 until May '00, and stayed in Lancaster until May '01.
I did spend a little bit of time in Hildy's, though not a whole lot. I never could cope with cigarette smoke in such high concentration. But I suppose my days there were positive in a sense, given the fact that I got to see up close people that didn't have a whole lot of hope in life.
(Except when the Flyers were in the playoffs at which point they seemed to have copious amounts of it)

What a pity we couldn't have met you while you lived in the area. Ah well, someday maybe.
We moved away from the Hildy's/F&M area about 12 years ago, so we would have missed you completely... which means it wasn't *my* husband yelling out his window for the drunks to be quiet while you were there!

Hiya, Eagle 1,
Glad you kickstarted or whatever this forum again. I think it's helpful to have a gathering/checking in place for us lot so we don't get lonely.
When you say "there's a lot of anger out there" do you mean anger vs Christians or Americans or American Christians? And do you mean anger from the world or from other Christians or all of the above?
I think we english are the worst culprits for a lot of anti-american feeling which has spread into the church. I know I am to blame, I have strong feelings about Iraq and so on but I need to make sure this does not make me angry and isolated against my brothers and sisters in The States. I detect quite a strong atmosphere of anti-americanism within some sectors of the UK church but God has spoken to me quite clearly about the UK's need to humble itself in relation to what God is doing in America. More on that later maybe.
Anyway, nice to make your acquaintance.
Blessings,
seyms
