How about 'Peta's Peons', or even (to copy Bruce, but in a much less spiffy fashion) 'Procrastinating People Purely Placed to Please Peta'?
I dunno - I just wanted in on this conversation!

I think nobody likes being called a FAG (short for Friendly Action Gnome) very much
But how about Towel Bearers?

Or how about
...the Welcome Foundation?
...Deputy Droogs?
...Handshakers? (or if we're being all continental, Cheek-kissers? )
...Peta's Partypoppers?
...Just Zeese Guys Who Say Hello?

I'm sure we aren't completely done yet
my half-a-cents worth:
Seasoned Hikers
Assistant Community Editors (or in short ACEs )
(oops, a block's coming up... I feel there's a lot of other things boiling up inside my brain, but they just refuse to surface. I'll be back with more soon.)

We could call them Jiminies, after Jiminy Cricket, but Disney would probably have their lawyers on us faster than a weightwatchers meeting on a tray of warm muffins.
They could be sunbeams, because they bring light, and they could sing "Peta wants me for a sunbeam".
I'd like to use the name Prometheus, who gave fire to man, but I'm unsure of the plural. Promethei?
If you want to stay in Guide terms, although frood (already mentioned) is good, surely a disembodied voice to welcome you and lead you to your destination should be called a "Gargravarr"?

Hi Goofball (no offence intended )
What about Prometheans then
I also thought of "Don't Panic Team", in short "DPT", which then could be easily transformed into "Deputy"
Still, I like ACEs better

Hi hitch-hiking people, I just registered, so this has probably been suggested already..... How about 'prefects' as a name?
Look it was only a suggestion! after all prefects have little actual power, are members of the group, keep order, and its the same nicely inconspicuous name as Ford......
Perhaps too many of you use this as a nik-name already?
....Well, thats my vote.
Cheers and thanks for listening.

Hi Bones,
Welcome with H2G2. I hope you may have a wonderful time here. If there's any question at all, just ask any of the "prefects" (as you suggested, very nice), or "ACEs" (as I named them). Maybe soon a special ACEs-page (or prefects-page) will be available, where you can try to get our attention.
For now I can say, most pointers to good advise are already available on the front-page of this site.
If ever you're unsure about suggesting anything that may have been said already... don't worry, it's not a capital offence And if you wish to avoid re-inventing the wheel altogether, you might try reading all the messages for a certain article before you reply, although that can sometimes be a very tedious and time-consuming task.
I can't recommend it for ALL entries, because the *fun* of being here and contributing to the Guide would soon vanish.
Anyway, thanx for the suggestion. As far as I recall, it wasn't mentioned before. Enjoy your stay here.
Festival (possibly an ACE-to-be)

h2g2 welcoming team
A couple of definitions of welcome.
1 : to greet hospitably and with courtesy or cordiality
2 : to accept with pleasure the occurrence or presence

Job titles that describe exactly what you do usually aren't the kind of jobs you want to have. Using this as a basis for this argument, do not call them *anything*. Or Blank. As in, 'I'm Blank John Doe, welcome to the community, no spitting or developing weapons that threated peace and global stability' stuff like that. It makes for an aura of mystery.

I'm often blank, but do we have to proclaim that officially??
Just in the middle of trying to wake up this morning "PAWN" hit me - Petas Assistant Welcoming Non-Editors... to be pawn in one of queen Petas games ... sorry, but as I said, I wasn't fully awke yet...
