Yeah, and Prefect turned out to be first "Towel Bearer" we met in the series
And who was this character in that tower, the one that Zaphod was going to see? I only know him as "Zarniwoop" which was the dutch "translation". He was the second "Towel Bearer" as far as I recall

Roosta was the guy with the multi-flavoured towel that Zaphod met on his way to "go see Zarniwoop" - the translators must have had a day off .
One of the greatest exchanges of dialogue ever:
Roosta: Beeblebrox! Over here!
Zaphod: No, Beeblebrox over here! Who are you?
R: A friend
Z: Oh yeah? Anyone's friend in particular, or just generally well disposed to people?

Hi! I'm Bistroist, you're Phadraig! Phadraig's your name, and Phadraig's what you should be called. The name by which you should be known to the world is... Phadraig! Know now, that you, and only you, are the true Phadraig!

I wonder how long Peta is going to let us flail about here before she picks a name!
I was pretty partial to Prefects myself.
It sound good!

PAWN? I like that. But "Towel-Bearer" sounds good to. Somebody who gives initiate researchers their first towels, symbolizing their change from ordinary mortals into Researchers.

A special voting forum has been created at http://www.h2g2.com/forumframe.cgi?forum=25486&thread=27541
Go there and vote (once only please) and that will help Peta make up her mind!

I'd say that only ONE person had a say in this... The only vote goes to the person with the lowest number... in this case: Peta herself!

But isn't Mark U13?
Anyway, Peta said to vote (or something).

Ok, Mark may be 13, but did you see him in this Forum recently? I didn't Anyway, this is Peta's scene, Peta's scheme.
And her remark about voting must have been just a great practical joke, because she must have *known* that someone like you would try to take charge and make a fool of themselves
Anyway... If I'm going to vote, I'd go for ACEs first, but even if Towel Bearers came out on top, it'd still be one of *my* suggestions that won

What about 'Cohorts'? - No acronym just kinda fits the role.
or MAGPIE's - (M)eet (A)nd (G)reet (P)eople, (I)n (E)xcelsis?
- they like to swoop on shiny things, like newbies for instance.
Oh I dunno, it's late what about ZZZzzzzzzz...

Yes I would have to agree that Towel Bearers would be best. Collectively we could be the H.O.T.T. group for Handers Of The Towels. That may put off some new members if they didn't explore enough to understand though. What do you think?
New person->Why are you contacting me again?
Towel Bearer->Because I'm H.O.T.T.
New person->Get lost creep.

I like Prefects. It allures to the books but doesn't actually rely on them heavily. I lot of the newbies recently don't seem to have actually read the Hitchhikers books, and anything heavily dependant on them knowing them could seem more than a little weird. Most people who are fans of the books and can quote them are already regulars on this site and therefore wouldn't need a Towel Bearer, even though they would get the joke. Whereas the newbies who haven't read the books would think 'Huh?' So my theory and vote goes to Prefects. It means as said above, someone from the group who has a little bit of power but is still essentially part of the group. So newbies who aren't up to date on the Guide will know what they are and newbies who have done their home work will think 'Ahh.' and get the reference. To sum, I think Towel Bearers would be excluding a group of people from knowing what we're going on about but Prefects would be less elitist and more subtle. But then, what do I know?
