Slip-Sliding away!

Sliders are/were cool! Over in Holland I've seen much of it on the British BBC2 channel. However, they broke off after Quin and Becket ending up in that futuristic world. I don't even know if there was more.
Anyway: the first seasons were indeed much better than what followed later.

[Oh, dear.
This can't possibly turn out well. The odds are heavily against it.
Perhaps someone should change the subject.]
Why have water balloons suddenly become so scarce and unpopular?

Simple question, simple reply:
The people that were most commonly the victims of those balloons, have voted against them

I wasn't previously aware that water balloon attacks were a democratic sort of situation. I am surprised and enlightened. And also a little bit cold.

OH, I don't know.. they're still quite popular around here...
I can remember sneaking out, buying a bag of balloons, sneaking back into our "wash room" (I washed vegetables... prepared them, etc.), and then slowly filling the balloons with water... to a point where they could burst by the slightest influx of speed, or the pressure of anything...
Yes, hoisting those balloons in the palm of my hand, the whoosing sound as I let one fly, and *smack, floosh, splat* as the balloons met contact with my employer... Yes indeed... those were the days...
And still are

I could close the window, but then I'd just want it open again. Besides, I wouldn't be cold if I weren't sitting here typing. Therefore there is absolutely no available remedy.

I know what you mean. It's very much the same here.

Most of my body is rather warm... though my feet are always imensly freezing... I've heard that is due to poor circulation, but I can feel all my nerves... Does that make any sense? Should it?

about HOT: You lucky devil (no, NOT bastard!)
Have you seen the current status of the h2g2-group recently? I'm afraid it didn't grow anymore after saturday, but together we've at least succeeded in making it 5 times as big as before. And especially the joining of Azimuth and Merkin helped improving our number of processed work-units
Well done!

it's true: poor circulation is to blame for it. Lots of people litterally have "cold feet", without being cowards
Keeping them warm doesn't cure it either, but rather tends to make matters worse, unfortunately

I think we will have a lot more before we really know it! Like a snow ball gathering more snow (not that I have ever really seen snow as it is too warm even in winter for snow!)
If there are about 25000 researchers on H2G2, we should be able to get at least 5% to join the group....... that's my guess!

Wow, you're talking a major group here... 1250 people is larger than anything seen on SETI's system yet. I would LOVE it, tho!

Anyone who now reads this thread and hasn't got the SETI@Home Screensaver - should go and get it then join with the H2G2 reseachers group!
That's kind of a threat..... I've never been terribly good at them myself.

Yeah, and if they want to know more about it, they should first visit www.h2g2.com/A193231, where they will find information and the links to get what they need

Unless, you mean, they already belong to another SETI group, because it's rude to desert.
I'm sure that's what you meant to say.

Yeah, you're right about that... and it serves no purpose either. After all, you can't take your previous results with you (would be very unpleasant to the group you'd be deserting), so the new group won't benefit from it. When you're still free, the group may benefit from the joining, and your own rank may also rise (although not your personal rank)
SETI group for h2g2
bludragon, aka the Dragon Queen of Damogran Posted Oct 26, 1999
As of Tuesday, the SETI h2g2 Researchers group has 19 members!
We have contributed a total of 1.84 years in CPU time!
Way-to-go, group!!!!!
Some researchers have included a url in their SETI information. Maybe it would be cool if we included the link to our h2g2 page, rather than a page outside h2g2. Then we could find each other easily in the Guide, especially if our SETI name is different. Also, everyone has a h2g2 page, and some may not have a home page somewhere else.
I am in awe of Azimuth with 352 units processed. Fortunately, he/she/it used their h2g2 name when signing up [I think] So I can find them in the guide, but others are not so easily found. This may be because they dont want to be found, of course, but thats ok. Just though it would be fun to have links to our Guide pages. Optional of course.
If you are already signed up, and want to add or change to your h2g2 URL:
Go to the SETI home page
Select 'User Account Area'
Select 'Change User acct info'
Fill in your email address and SETI password, and SUBMIT
[if you dont remember your SETI password, click and they will mail it to you almost immediately]
Fill in your h2g2 URL [mine is http://www.h2g2.com/U15304] in the space provided and SUBMIT
Your name on the SETI h2g2 Researchers group page will now be a link to your h2g2 page!
GO TEAM!
oh dear, I'm turning into a cheerleader--aaack!
must resist urges to go out and buy pom-pons and short skirt [particularly at my age]...
