Hey Rose. I started a new thread for newcomers and I called it the new road. You can start by showering rose petals along our path...

Ah..well that's up to you. H2g2 is a multi-leveled time/space continuum. I just thought this new path might serve to fulfill the expectations you might have had with 'a stranger in town'. I made the same assumption when I joined. Only to find it was a writing exercise, a character was established at posting #1 and everyone was just adding plot and stuff and then like all threads it wandered off..
Oh where was I? Oh yeah..
Best advice I can give you is to pretend you are Alice and this is a rabbit warren. Just keep clicking around until you find your kind of people. Sooner or later, some official and semi-offical people will come to post things on your homepage and answer questions about where to find stuff.

Meanwhile, try clicking "Who's Onfirst" at the top of the page (Well OK it's really 'who's online' but I like my way better) Then pick a name that strikes your fancy and go to their homepage. But what's in a name, eh? As you said "a rose is a rose is a rose" ..No wait you didn't say that did you?

evnin all.
Almost every town in the UK has a 'New Road' somewhere. Usually one of the oldest roads in the town, ironically. (Typically the second road it got...)
A friend of mine used to live on 'The New Road' in a small village. Just past his house the speed limit changed from 30mph to 60mph. I think it was some kind of challenge - less than 200 yards past the change of speed limit, the road ended abruptly in a field!
I guess it was for the benefit of boy racers on tractors.

That's that highly specialised use of the word 'clear' meaning 'to drive through' (or possibly 'to crash into') isn't it?

I don't think tractors can do that can they?

Oooo, a new thread..nice one, john!
We've got a New Road in our town. It's got big high walls all round it. Well, not ALL round it, obviously, or you wouldn't be able to get in. Or out. Or over.....
O.k, I'll just get me coat...

Oh good, c'mon you can help me scatter these ..
And we can do some sort of official ceremony stuff, cut a ribbon or two and drink some Champers as as we officially rename this new path the Rose-Is-A-Rose-Is-A-Rose Roundabout.

Oh yes, I believe 'the New Road' is perfectly apt for a continuing topic of conversation. I was only thinking geo-politically, in a map making, sign painting, ground breaking, champagne drinkin' kind of way.
*scatters more along the New Road (also known, but only in official documents and tourists' brochures, as Rosies Roundy)*

oh, well that's alright then! (scatters more )
Ahem! So would you like to do the honours, john? (Hands john some scissors and looks round for big piece of ribbon).
I'll line up the champers.
(stands back expectantly)

expectantly...?
It doesn't show yet. But hey congratulations. What shall we name it? How about 3o2 + 1...
And forget the ribbon for now then dear. What we'll be needing is towels and plenty of hot water.
And they said I didn't know nothin' 'bout birthing no babies!

Ah well then. Give us them glasses and we'll do the Champers proud. And here, the elastic on yer thingy there will do nicely as a celebratory ribbon, A snip here, a snip there.
(Carefully checking to see he didn't spell it celibate-tory, we turn the page on another installment of the Long And Winding New Road aka Rosie's Roundabout)
