In the Katherine Tate show on Thursday night, at about 9:15 one of her characters (the www.imakeupurls.com/noidont/yesido one) mentions doing a sponsored run for a charity for men who are beaten up by their spouses, which is 42 miles in length.

When I transferred from one department to another at our nuclear power plant, I was assigned a locker with the number '42' just above the door. It was doubly odd that the lockers in the area are non-sequentially grouped in groups of three sequential lockers. None of the other locker numbers reach above 21. My locker is at the end of a run of "40,41,42", sandwiched between two groups consisting of "16,17,18" to the left and "7,8,9" to the right.

In tracking down a piece of music my daughter was practicing on the harp, because she wanted to know the lyrics, we found this cross-reference at www.contemplator.com/england/longago.html :
“Thomas Haynes Bayly [author of the poem and song "Long, Long Ago"] was born in Bath, England on October 13, 1797 to wealthy parents. His father expected Bayly to be a lawyer, but after several years at home he went to Oxford to study for the church. His studies ended when he married a wealthy woman. They had two daughters and a son. They lived happily for six years until their son died. Bayly lost his health and faced financial ruin. He turned to writing to pay the bills. Bayly fell ill and died at the age of -->42<-- in April of 1839.”

Walgreen's commercial:
[set]
Theater Auditorium - sparsely populated seating - Judges' stand at side of stage - row of children seated across stage - one young girl in dress and ponytails stands at the microphone
[/set]
Judge: Spell 'prestidigitation'.
Young Girl: {looks up, uncertain} Would you please say the word again?
Judge: Yes. 'Prestidigitation'.
Young Girl: {fidgets with her fingers behind her back, clears her throat as if to begin, halts, then asks} Could you use it in a sentence, please?
Judge: Of course. "The magician was known for his feats of prestidigitation."
Young Girl: {squirms uncomfortably in the spotlight, grimaces, thinks} May I have another word, instead?
Judge: {looks quizzically at other Judges, then smirks the teensiest bit and turns to look at Girl} Sure. Why not? 'Zoo'. Spell 'zoo'.
Young Girl: {relieved and filled with confidence, with no hesitation} Z-O-O. 'Zoo'.
[cheering and whistles from the crowd]
Voice-Over: Don't you wish everything was this simple?
Young Girl: {stands in the limelight of her accomplishment, her entrant's number hanging upon her midriff reads "42", she bows}

42 was another tribute from the Doctor Who producers to former series writer DNA this season. The episode where the Doctor and Martha land on a spaceship drifting towards a Sun has 42 minutes before the point of no return when the episode starts, and then plays out in real time.
