Entry: Baseball Teams of the National League - A1232731
Author: broelan - perfecting backlog aversion - U155058
i picked this up in the flea market much earlier this year. i have discovered that sometime between my finding it in the flea market and actually writing it, jodan managed to beat me to it. after talking to him about it he has told me that he doesn't plan to submit his version to peer review, so here's mine. it's not quite as detailed but much shorter, which isn't necessarily a bad thing and it comes with a companion piece: a similar entry on the american league A1270135.
i'm not a die-hard baseball fanatic, and this is meant to be a not very in-depth breakdown of the teams. when i get the AL entry in peer review i'll post a link to it's conversation for anyone interested.

"When the Dodgers were unable to build a new stadium in New York they started looking to relocate and moved to the west coast the same time as the Giants."
Actually, the Giants manager helped to convince the Dodgers to move to the West Coast so that the teams could continue their famous rivalry. The Brooklyn-NY rivalry really is a great part of baseball history - by the way. Not so much the LA-SF rivalry

Hmmm... I don't know where to start.
I'm a rabid sports nut, and I found myself saying "but what about. . ." all the time. That is because the entry is concise. Which is not a bad thing.
I realize that the entry in this form might hold much more interest for the millions of people just getting their introduction to the sport.
Still, the two entries are quite brief. Are they short enough to combine? The entry might avoid the back-and-forth if they are two parts of a single entry.
Then too the title could be a little altered to something like "An Introduction to the Teams of Major League Baseball".
The entry doesn't really discuss the League as much as it covers each team in brief. That's certainly fine to do, but looking at the title I expected a little more of the history of the league as a whole rather than a roster of teams.
Still, i like the entry. The material is well covered. This definately deserves a spot in the EG. But I wonder a little about the structure/title and I still wonder about the brevity.
BTW, my wife thinks that ALL SPORTS should have synopses this quick and easy to read. Heathens. . .

thanks jodan, i'll see how i can reword that later today
and thanks friar for the positive feedback
i don't have a problem with combining them if a general concensus agrees that it wouldn't make it too long.
as i mentioned, i picked this up in the flea market. the original author had started out making this all one entry and it was suggested to him in peer review to break it down into two entries by league. i can see the argument for either format.
if anyone else has an opinion on whether they should be combined or stay the way they are please post it. we'll see which has the majority.
and friar, you can tell the mrs. that hockey is next on my list

my argument for linnking them is:
1) the topics are closely linked in content, of course
2) both entries are farily brief, thus the overall entry would not be unwieldly
3) Combining them saves repitition of information
4) In combining them the entry achieves a nice 'three act' organization: history/AL teams/NL teams

Hi Cyz... I would say the answers to your questions are 1) yes, but not at the moment - she's away for a couple of weeks, and 2) in her absence, I'd say that she usually welcomes feedback and responds very well to it...

In the St Louis Cardinals section -
"They play at Busch Stadium, but expect to build a new park sometime in the mid 2000s"
a 500 year wait to get a new stadium? That's got to suck

Cyzaki - the leagues aren't really decided. The leagues create new teams - teams don't really join leagues anymore
Divisions are based on geographic location though

Basically, no, it's not based purely on geographic location Some teams formed when there was only one league in the very early 1900s.
My mistake trying to tell a European about baseball

But I think it needs explaining in the entry, cos most leagues you go in to the next league if you win the one you're in, but it doesn't work like this here, I think...

No, the world series is just a competition for the ones that win the league. They don't get promoted/relagated to different leagues depending on where they come in the league, which is how most leagues work.
