STRANGELY STRANGE ( A brain on a spring ) Posted Jun 7, 2009
Just too advantage of a sunny spell amoungst the cloud and rain and sat in the garden. I sat very still for a long time and eventually 7 squirells came out and 2 drank from my waterbowl around 8 feet from me. I was only around a metre from one and could clearly see what sex they were. they look very styrange stretching up and leaning over the waterbowl to drink as their muscles stretch out and show just how muscular and strong they really are!
It was nice to watch them from ground level rather than my looking down from my first floor flat, I was sitting on ground and leaning against wooden shed.
.
Not much of a beach here, uness you count the gravel drive as a shingle beach!

have you thought about placing nuts close by and over a period, bring them closer and see if you are able to "hand" feed them ?

I did think about that prof, and do feed them Monkey Nuts from my window, but was worried about them becoming too tame, not so much from what I would do, but I have some strange neighbours in these flats who do stupid things like trying to give bread and milk to young birds!

Hi Strangely!
on't be afraid of squirrels becoming 'tame'. Just won't happen. When I was in the RAF, I was stationed at a place near London, and made frequent trips to Regents Park, which is FULL of squirrels. If you have nuts, they will approach. If you don't, they will stay well away from you!!!

When my kids were still at school there were lots of squirrels in the grounds and would steal their sandwiches off them if they left their bags on the ground. I think they bite too don't they?

They will only bite if you scare them. If they have taken nuts off you, you can gently touch the head, if you do it slowly and carefully!
