A Conversation for The Garden Shed
Which me do you prefer?

My wife has recently lost a lot of weight. Partially this was because she gave birth, and so some of that weight came out as a fully formed human being. Though, equally relevent is that she came out of pregnancy with less weight than she went it. And running around after a now four-month old little boy has resulted in her lossing yet more weight.
She is, therefore, slimmer than we was when we were going out, and than when I married her. On Sunday morning she asked me, "Which me do you prefer? The me then or the me now?" Clearly this is the kind of question that men would normally go out of their way to avoid, but there it was. And I, pushing the pram as I was, could hardly run for cover in the bushes.
My first answer: "You are still you. It's just the shape that's changed, not you as a person." Was met with laughter (thankfully) and the response of, "Well, which shape do you prefer then?" If I sidestepped answering the question, I was hardly going to met this, potential more explosive, one head on.
So, my answer? "I can't answer that question. It breaks the Husband's Code. Anyway, which shape do you prefer?" She prefers her present shape, apparently. Which is a relief.

Nice work there, that was a potentially nasty situation difused. I'm thinking hard without the benefit of pressure but I can't come up with an alternative answer. Have a gold star.

God no, you'll have to hide it. Do you have a shed?

I do, but it's little more than an outside storage cupboard. No room to sit down in it. Had another shed delivered just this morning, actually. But that's even more cupboard-like. Well, more like a sideboard, really. I could hardly claim that as my domain.

"I most often answer that question with: When you feel good with it it is .
And on insisting something like: As long as you are healthy with it. "
