Hello Emily
The hamster tanks we use are terrepin tanks and they come with lids. We guys have water bowls and rarely fill them with sawdust. We do have beds but they tend to be cardboard boxes, flower pots or large cermaic mugs, which we enjoy. We don't only actually use sawdust, we use wood flakes (perhaps I should have been clear about that) which are softer and don't scratch our delicate paws and skin. You would tend to use wood chips for larger rodents. We never have wood knaws as mother had been advised by a vet that they can splinter and tear the pouches or cause facial injury. We have hard stuff to knaw on, raw carrot, hard baked crusts most of our hard stuff comes in the diet and we need little else. We do not need vitamin supplements or any other artificial means of getting all the nutrtion we need as mother gives us mix of fresh food daily and seed. Over the years Mother found that our life span increased on this diet, intead of 2 to 3 years we get to 4 to 5 1/2 years!!
Thanks for your tips Emily.
Yeah the syrians fight to the death. There are so many hamster homes dotted round the flat there is no need for ornaments. Two are dwarfs, roborovski's, to date the smallest hami you can get
Mothers kept hamster since she was eight years old and picked up a fair few ideas over the years, some from personal experience some from veterinary advice.
Nice speaking to you, pop by again.

I have made a couple of changes, spellings and some links. I will address some of the other suggestions when I have a bit more time, just wanted to let people know that I'm not dead!
