A Conversation for Talking Point: Accidents and Disasters

Clumsiness and being generally dumb

Post 1

Rains - Wondering where time's going and why it's in so much of a hurry!

Was how I described the following accident...

...when orking in a car factory, and welding long bits of metal to support the roof of a car (about 6 ft long, 4" wide, sort of in a U shape). I stacked them up vertically (ie the 4" end on the ground, leaning against a wobbly metal cupboard).

Unfortunately, I failed to notice that the pile was quite precarious and stacked a few more there, turned around to pick up some more bits to weld and BANG!

20 or so of these long lumps of metal toppled over and smacked me on the back of the head, giving me a very nasty concussion and a big cut on my head.

The funniest thing was the cut. I didn't realise my head was bleeding, but the look on the faces of the guys I was working with as they saw the trail of blood down my back was priceless!

I then discovered that it is possible to run while wearing steel toe-cappped boots, as I began vomiting.

I ended up with 3 weeks off work and serious short term memory problems for 2 months! I couldn't drive my car for a fortnight as I just didn't have the concentration, I couldn't cook for myself as I couldn't remember putting anything in the oven...

Ah well. I'm better now!
