Ah i see, the old story about 'tourist traps' then. Oddly, as it's supposed to be a beautiful city, Oxford is a hell hole at Christmas.
Two ghastly 1960's mall type things full of sports wear and phone shops, dreadful parking, and hordes of teenage girls pretending to be sophisticated shopping women of the world.
It's a shame really, it has a beautiful high street which could be set up for a really nice Christmas market.

I don't think it's a tourist trap, I'm afraid it's only me being All my friends and family and inhabitants of Frankfurt love the christmas market - it's just not my cup of .
So doesn't Oxford has a christmas market ? I've heard there is a really nice one in Birmingham, with all the traditional German stuff, I think there's even a GE about it <./>A3385938</.>

They have a Victorian themed evening which can be fun. All characters out of Dickens' novels looking like a classic Christmas card image, but it's only 1 night.

Well, according to the list in the entry, there's a christmas market in Bath which is not too far away from you.

Tired. Colleen dragged me out Christmas shopping and because I used to be a packer years ago, guess who got the job of wrapping the presents. If I ever see another plastic Santa again I'll scream.
Anyone with merry Christmas of their lips should be boiled in their own pudding, force fed sage & onion stuffing and buried with a stake of holly through their hearts.

You are probably right - I haven't experienced anything in that direction yet, so I'm ok. We went to the local christmas market but didn't stay there for long, just had a mulled wine and a quick gander, then caught the downtown to get to the restaurant.

I have this plug in air freshener that smells of mulled wine it is very nice when you enter my flat. A friend says he local church is running a Christmas sale next Saturday and he has invited us, but we don't know if we'll go yet. London usually has a Christmas parade every year. They are usualy very big.

Floats, or trucks with various displays of Christmas and events. Santa is always in prominence. They shut off certain streets and the lorries parade through.

I've never seen anything like that, but Nick told me, they have that in Canada. It's probably fascinating for the kids

The children and tourists love it, of course. It is televised. I have no doubt many country's have the same thing. It is a copy of American parades, of course.
I have never been to one, but have seen bits and pieces of them on TV, Started about 5 years ago, I think.
