Al Gore is a voice of sanity, Zagreb - we saw him on the 'Late Show with David Letterman', which we rarely get to see, because it *is* late. He was a refreshing change from Dubya, very funny, relaxed and an all round nice guy. But how often does anyone ever get the change to see or hear Gore? Almost never!

Well Nyssabird, it now seems that T'mershi is at the business end of symantics or deliberate miss-interpretation. It seems you have to be literal, simple and long winded in this place.
---------------
"In the UK, there is a much greater chance of the government being defeated on an issue; in the US, especially now that the Republicans control both houses, there is a far greater risk of politics becoming an issue of the whim of the president. erm"
For the second time in a row (here) here the ruling coalition is a minority that was able to form government with the help of a deal with another party that gaurenteed support on confidence and supply votes. A whole lot of people have to agree before something gets passed.

(If they're not being side-tracked by NZ's own Jean Marie Le Pen, in the form of Winnie Peters..)
Who *is* proving his relevance to current events, by attempting to convince everyone that the Government's acceptance of refugees, put us in the position of having to expect our own 911 any day now...

As others have pointed out, it´s the perception around the world that Bush IS America theese days. Do you think, Zagreb, that news media should tell the truth about the percentages with with Bush got into The White House, instead of the aforementioned headlines of him being "the most popular president", and the like, because then it might change.

Al and Tipper Gore appear to be on a promotional tour for some new books they put together "Joined at the Heart" and some book of photos celebrating family. I heard them on Fresh Air with Terry Gross on NPR. Terry Gross kept asking political questions, and Tipper kept ineptly dragging the discussion back to the books. But I was glad to hear her ask the same question I've been wondering lately: will the Democrats move left or right in reaction to this year's election losses?
Al said, "I don't think the Democratic Party needs to move left or right, it needs to move forward." Sounds pretty, but doesn't mean much. Actually, it made me think that the Democratic Party is less about representing a certain viewpoint, and more about supporting people on their way to positions of power, while entrenching their members already in power. They seem to care about the issues only insofar as the issues can be useful to them. So they really will move forward regardless of direction, because they're more worried about winning than about actually standing for something.
BONUS for Gore fans: he's supposed to host Saturday Night Live in November, and he claims that they will decide in December whether he's going to run for Pres again.

I just remembered the pre-election about Tipper Gore and the punchline was "read my lips, no more bush" - I'd get moderated for the whole joke.

"BONUS for Gore fans: he's supposed to host Saturday Night Live in November..."
I'm sure both of them will be very pleased.
"Al said, "I don't think the Democratic Party needs to move left or right, it needs to move forward." Sounds pretty, but doesn't mean much."
I still think the whole notion of a two-party system in the US is a myth. There really is only one party split amongst two differently named groups. Whatever happenned to Nader?

If Gore is the voice of sanity, the the Lord help us all.
Let's not lose sight of the fact that it was his wretched wife who was responsible for prental advisory stickers and heads up some nauseating alliance of busybodies to guard others morals.
Mojo Nixon wrote some wonderful song lyrics about her, but they'd upset people, so you'll have to find 'em for yourself...
