Not an h2g2 query, I know. Forgive me.
But does anyone know the mysterious "laws" that govern how Telewest's (in)activemail handles picture attachments? I'm well aware of the 50K limit (God knows, I'm reminded of it often enough!) but even smaller file sizes remain undisplayed, leaving only the accompanying text & that irritating mantra about forwarding to a PC (they don't seem to grasp the fact that if I had a PC account I wouldn't be using this slipshod system in the first place!)
Its annoying when you consider that on this site & when the firewall's down, the digibox copes with high-res images & even animated gifs, but within the email system just the tiniest jpeg sends it creaking back to the Stone Age. I vaguely recall being able to view them as microscopic thumbnails, is this a false memory of an urban myth or is the service getting worse at increasing expense?
Hmm, reading over that, it sounds more like a rant than a query let me rephrase it ... "Why doesn't the digibox display picture attachments & is there a way to access them without 'forwarding'?"

Hello....
Yeh you access it once if it dont display the picture go out to resived mail and acess it again untill it shows up
And when you acess it leave it a few moments before you move the picture down giveing it time to load up so to speak
Im on a box and i can see pictures in my E-Mail box
See if this helps -Intern-

>Waiting for the picture to load sounds like good advice. It even applies to PCs some of the time.<
Especially mine..
Yep, waiting for the piccy to load is a good idea [or sometimes going back to the email a few times helps]... As for the Attachment problem itself, i don't have any answer unfortunately... and yep, if you haven't access to a PC with a free email account then you won't be able to forward it and know what's in it...
Might be worth going to the local library and open one of these free email accounts just for that [and you can access your PC email account from any computer]... though some have some little rules that need to be known like for example if you haven't accessed it for a certain amount of time the account is closed down.. That happened to me with Hotmail if i remember well... i was only a few days too many without accessing it and it's now in a virtual limbo...
Would you like me to ask TW about the attachment issue when i surf their website?!... I might not get any answer but we have nothing to lose by asking...
Hi SEF and INTERN...
Talk soon...

The problem with waiting for it to lad is that it hardly ever seems to, and you can spend forever going in and out of it.
It is getting worse and has been doing for some time. It used to be 50k limit but I think that just applies to text now and the maximum size of jpegs and gifs seems to be around 12k.
Let us know what TW say when you get a reply loup.

Yeh sometime `s you get the file attachment at the bottom and no picture going out is the only way to get rid of it
It some times takes a few attempts but gets there in the end

Hey kow et al, can you get back into my PS yet? I did a bit of clearing up and got a few names removed from the friends lists.

Kow said it was crashing the digibox and I'd noticed that quite a few people had added themselves to the reciprocal friends list over the past couple of weeks.

You could be the only one who doesn't then. Last night AWOL was even posting the list of them onto another thread.

I didn't know there was some sort of AWOL watching sport/hobby. Is this like trying to spot trains or rare birds?
AWOL posted the contents of my PS into the tea-shoppe thread along with repeating various people's posts from a little earlier in the thread. There was no reason given for doing this.
