Should this work on my userspace?
The notes on guideml says it doesnt.Yet I have forumthreadintro on my userpage and it works ok.
Anyway the problem is when I add ADDTHREADINTRO to my page it takes me to a conversation initiated by some other user.Granted its from 1999 but has some entries from 3 weeks ago. This is highly confusing.
Whats going wrong?

Hi Artisan
the is put after the first and before the first , the same place you have your
it will only be seen on the page that people *write* there messages ( before thay hit the "POST MESSAGE" button )
you can test if it works by going to leave your self a message, you should see it above the box where you write the text

Yes I understand that Manda.I did that and thats what happens. Then again Ive had this problem before regarding my guestbook, but then it magically changed itself!Do you think it will change when someone other than myself posts to my page!Because when I do it the post goes to another conversation. This is actually more bother than its worth

The problem with your guestbook is that you have the wrong number in it
you are useing the INREPLYTO one,
if you use this number 3633773
so if you put
<GUESTBOOK INREPLYTO="3633773"
then all the messages will go in the conversation that I have just started on your page

Yep I'm totally confused .
Let me get this right I put after the first and before the first ?!
Do I just write in what I want after that? and do I need to close the tag?
Urg! I need a .

Yes, it goes after but before . So do a few other things. In theory it might work after but before but I haven't tried that and there's no need to do it.
Yes, you can put pretty much anything into it - including links and smileys - all in GuideML mode of course. I don't advise nesting it with another one of the same (though again it might work).
Yes, you must close it. All GuideML tags have to be in open and close pairs or self-closing like . They must not overlap each other. So things like bold text would cause an error.
No comment on your meed for a drink.

A load of fluffing around for a digibox user is all this GuideML jargon .
Ok then thanks, I'll try it now

I done it...I'm so clever ...
Well...with a helping hand I done it .
Now to tackle the other one.
What do I type in do that a message appears at the top of my conversation forums.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

There are rather a lot of those options:
- adds content to the 'Post to a Conversation' page.
- adds content to Conversations.
- adds content to Conversation list, eg message centre.
- adds content to Conversations _and_ Conversation list.
- adds introduction under title of personal space but before other content (there doesn't seem to be much point to this as you can do it anyway).

Loup and manda,
I have a suggestion which might help people with the GUESTBOOK problem but unfortunately it makes a lot of work for you. Whenever you add someone to the list of LDers you could add their forum number (F#) too. Then they would always have a reference for creating such things. You could even add the code for people to post to their pages (whether in guestbook form or not) but that's probably going too far.
Note that if number of links is a limiting factor on the digibox then many pages may stop working. This includes the LDers list and the lists of all previous talking points and community topics.

hi SEF...
hi manda...
hi xian...
yep... what happens with <./>AskH2G2</.> could eventually happen to any project with loads of threads []... the FoLDers Arms springs to mind... pity we can't take some older threads off and dump/store them on a special page [convos archives?!]...
a F number for each ex-LDer listed?!... yep... idea...
talk soon....

Did you get hit by a tinned version of the tomato, or has something else made your head hurt? Or was that a general "oh no" at the prospect that, inexorably, one by one the h2g2 pages will become unusable from digiboxes?

what pages are becoming unusable plus there seems to be major problems with digiboxes just now the screen keeps going black

Oh, and Loup, much as you clearly love the disco smiley, I strongly suggest that you remove them from the start of each name before the list gets much longer and locks people out of that page by hitting the smiley limit. A sensible interface would only load the smiley once for display but I think we might have to eliminate the digibox from the list of potentially sensible interfaces. It was probably malo's duplicated space smileys which locked people out of the beer garden thread. If you want to keep some smileys, you could mark the start of each alphabetised letter section with them.
NB If the number of links on a page _is_ a general problem then even the links to LD users may eventually stop the page from working. In that case you could divide it into several pages from an index, eg all A-C, all D-F etc.
Key: Complain about this post
