Oh well, I will just have to accept that then... As for a room to myself, I will just sleep on the sofa each night...

hehe, that place is already occupied
my living room is living-dining-bedroom all in one
it has one advantage though, everyone has to pass here when entering or leaving the appartment, so noone can escape without me knowing it

hm, that is a real problem.
We have to find a solution for that. Wouldn't want my housekeeper to become ill, wouldn't be very effective if I had to nurse you

Don't worry Tina...I will work as a Metallurgist at night, and do the housework during the day....then sleep for a while, get up and shower, etc, have an evening meal, then off to work again....

ah that sounds good
and since the German companies are complaining about a lack of specialists you shouldn't have a problem to find a job
only, I would think twice to change places - down under seems to be a good place to be

Even more ....then you and your children will just have to come here. You can already speak English, but at my age I think studying and learning the German language will be a bit difficult. After all, I wont have the time as I will be at my Metallurgical work at night, housework during the day, and even I need to sleep!!!!

Don't tempt me
but my children don't want to move, perhaps I could urge my daughter to do so, but never my sons

Tina, when your sons are old enough to care for themselves, then it will be time for you to come here with your daughter, of course....You will easilys settle in here..and find work easily if you need or want to work. Your daughter will certainly find and make many friends here. Also the schools, colleges, and univerities are world renowned...
Here is a link to the university in Wollongong, my home City...you will see foryouselves what is on offer there....

that is really tempting
not I mind living in Düsseldorf, it is my hometown, but to be able to say "I live in Wollongong" certainly does have something... (how does one pronounce it?)
and if secretaries, especially bilingual ones are needed..... *starting to safe money for the flight*

Wollongong is pronounced.."Wool-on-gong". It is an aboriginal word meaning "By the sea" or words to that effect....There is a huge demand here for workers. You have skills which are highly valued. Here is a link to an Employment Ageny which deals with both domestic and international recruitment..
http://www.chandlermacleod.com/. It is quite an extensive site, so it will keep you busy for a while...

before I look for a job I have to know what the public transport is like - I do not have a driving licence, so there must be busses or train nearby

Steve51 Posted Oct 27, 2007
Tina, the public transport is excellent here. I have a car, but I rarely use it.... Everything is conveniently located here in Wollongong, so transport is no problem at all. In fact, why drive when I can walk...and it is healthy exercise....
btw, did yiu eventually get help with your correspondence?

Yes Stephen, I got some help with the correspondence, so for the moment I will be able to write proper offers even in French.
It is good to hear you prefer walking to driving when it is possible. I don't understand people who use a car for distances of less than 1 km (unless something heavy has to be transported)

Problem is, my sons won't be able to live on their own another few years, and they want workers who are younger than 45 (which I will be next year).
My second son would have helped me packing right away, but only under the condition that I will keep on paying the rent here (not really, he loves my Pizza, Ratatouille and the lot... + he now has understood that it is better to ask your mum when needing help with English and German homework, gives better marks and pleased teachers at school)

Never mind, Tina..it is not a simple process to pack up and migrate to another country and leave family behind. But, perhaps a holiday here would be enjoyable for you, and after you see Australia, perhaps you can migrate here using the normal process when your boys do finally leave home.... In the link I sent you there is a section from the Australian Government on migration....

I already had a look at that
not that I am already packing my bags, but to play with such an idea is nice.
As for holidays, I don't even remember how that word is written..., but that will change, and perhaps even Australia will be possible one day (Wollogong just looks the right place to relax.... )
