Stephen aka Peeb
I was born 25/09/1951, at Dilston Hall, near hexham, Northumberland, UK. My mother was English, my father was Ukranian. I was the third eldest of a subsequent 11 siblings. In 1062 we as a family migrated to Australia as Ten Pound Poms, and the family settled in the Illawarra region, south of Sydney, NSW. Wollongong is the City centre of the region. On completion of secondary schooling I entered the workforce at BHP-AIS, Port Kembla Steelworks, as a Trainee Metallurgist. This period required trainees to attend Technical College on one day and one evening per week whilst working in the steelworks full time in order to gain workplace experience. Upon graduation I was appointed to the position as a Shift Supervisor in the Coke Ovens Batteries in 1973.
I left the company in 1979 to pursue a career in the aluminium industry. I was employed as a Production Supervisor for major aluminium producers, including Comalco, ALCOA, Tomago Aluminium, and also worked in Brass and Copper, Zinc and Lead, numerous Foundries producing high alloy Iron castings for the metalliferous industry. I finally concluded my career working as a Heat treatment technician for David Brown gear Industries.
In 2007 I was forced to retire early due to health reasons.
I was married for 21 years, but now long divorced. I have four children and eleven grandchildren, all living locally.
Out of sheer boredom I have commenced a number of courses of study. I am undertaking the Certificate in Information, Media, and Technology on-line. I am studying also, at Vocational College, the Cert IV in Manufacturing Technology, and the Cert IV in Training and Assessment. Successful graduation in these will allow me to pursue a fresh career as a tutor at Technical Colleges.
