Mort - a middle aged Girl Interrupted

I am looking for advice on a tattoo. After much deliberation about what to get smiley - sigh I decided I would like Egyptian hierolyphs.

But what should it say/mean??? Something original and not naff!

Answers on a postcard....

I forgot to say, they would either be on my arm - above the sleeve length of a nurses uniform - or on my ankle.

Mort sweetie smiley - loveblush you really should work out what YOU want it to say. You don't want to be looking at it in 30 years time and not remember why you have that word/symbol.

Why Hieroglyph? What's the origin behind it? If you have ties to it, then surely a word would arise from that...? What about colours? Have you looked into Egyptian art/symbolism?

Let's see what google churns up for me on the topic. smiley - smiley

smiley - cheers Saturnine!

To be honest I expect to be dead in the next 15 years smiley - laugh

I would like it to say something that reflects what i feel about stuff, but is simple. Like 'honesty, pain = life' or 'Found but still Lost' etc

Hieroglyphs? - well they are different, unique-ish! I love the ancient Egyptian stuff (not that I am an expert on it)

Thanks for the links - I will see if anything tickles my fancy smiley - laugh

I like the eye of Rah - quite like the idea of being swallowed up by the sun God and then crapped out for the next morning smiley - winkeye

*wonders where that l33t came from* smiley - yikes

The eye of Rah I liked. Quite simple, and would look like it would work around the ankle bone quite well.

You might want to think about getting the front of the ankle/foot tattooed, instead of the bony part though. Feels to me like it would hurt less.

Hi
smiley - biggrin

I have a tat on my left ankle, and yes it did really hurt! Felt like she was engraving my bone...
But it's only pain right? smiley - bigeyes

I found that it was quite a mind altering experience to have that tat done - the pain really took me somewhere. But then it was also done at a festival in a tipi to the sound of drumming.

Hum, sorry if I sounded like I was bragging or something there - not my intention. smiley - smiley

A friend of mine has some ink on the front of her feet, and from what she told me, I got the impression that it was just as painful as having work done on the actual bone itself.

But if you want to have it done, then go for it - pain is only transitory and if you don't fight it, it can lead you to an altered reality.

I can say that out of my three tattoo's the most painful bit was across the bit where you collar bone meets your neck and sticks out. It felt like my whole head was vibrating...

Eek I can imagine.

I don't want it done over anywhere that is likely to expand... as I get fatter!

Which does limit it to areas over bone with less fat cells. I don't mind a bit of pain - being a total massochist. (So long it is not in a dentists chair smiley - winkeye)
