Entry: Installing a satellite dish - A1011402
Author: MartinP - U223813
I've been involved in the technical side of satellite TV since 1990 but I've tried to keep this piece short and easy to understand. I've written and published several books so the spelling and grammar ought to be up to scratch!

Hmmmm....
A few things...
One, there are a few places in the entry where you revert to first person and refer to yourself, which we avoid in entries for the Edited Guide. For more rules of thumb, check out Writing-Guidelines
Another, this does seem to be oriented towards installing a satellite dish in England, specifically -- much of the information wouldn't work if you were installing a dish in the US or Australia or whatnot. It might be worth specifying up front that the directions are somewhat UK-specific, and other readers should beware.

Author has made some revisions per comments above, and the entry definitely seems to be improving.
I think my only other comments would really be about the style of the entry, rather than the content. Some people who have been used to writing the more dry, technical bits professionally have a hard time adjusting to the more casual (and sometimes witty) writing style often seen here in the guide. As a result, sometimes they try *too* hard -- that's what it feels like in this entry here -- it feels like you're trying too hard to be all casual and laid back, and maybe laying on it a bit too thick.
But maybe this is just me -- what do other people think?

Yeah, especially the first paragraph.
You planning on working on this anymore?

Ausnahmsweise, wie üblich (Consistently inconsistent) Posted May 13, 2003
Hi,
I agree - the instruction are very UK "centric". (But then the Ttiel does say that )
The difference between true and magnetic south (or north) may have to be added, not subtracted for many locations.
The UK is a special case. It's not a very "wide" country, and it's at roughly 0 Longitude. So if the satellite's over the equator at 25.8, that's where you point.
But as you move around a large country like Canada, the compass direction to the satellite will change, as will the azimuth (the 22 degrees you used for the Leeds example).

It's almost three months since MartinP last visited us. Shall we ask the Eds for a move to the FM?
