Pilgrimage by Proxy: Julian of Norwich
Paige sent me a photo from Norwich. I said, 'Hey, are you in Norwich? Could you go and take a picture of Julian's church?' He said he was, and wait, could he find it on Googlemaps, and yeah, sure. So there's the photo. He also saw inside the church, but didn't think it polite to take a photo of the saint's home, which he describes as 'about the size of a bed-sit.' Now we know. I enjoyed this pilgrimage by proxy.
You remember Julian of Norwich, don't you? The 14th-century anchoress who told us that 'All will be well', and inspired generations? Including, of course, TS Eliot and Sydney Carter. Carter, a British songwriter perhaps even more beloved in the US – at least, among Quakers and other peaceniks – wrote a song about Julian. Here it is below.
