Saffron is actually pollen. I don't know if the plant associated with it is endangered, but it is VERY expensive here in the USA. Lovely table pic!

It is the most pricey spice known, they keep saying. It's not endangered, but the pistils have to be hand picked from the flowers, so it's madly labour intensive... I suppose that's why it's expensive. And I think you need several kilos of flowers for a gram of saffron.

Truly delicious sounding Milla! I feel inspired to make these soon. I love your photos too, so elegant.
The bits of the flower that are collected are the stigmas, and the saffron crocus is cultivated. There is a place in England called Saffron Walden, where this cultivation gave the town its name. They don't grow it there any longer though.

Those crazy English speakers call the man-part of a flower an "anther". Don't try picking pollen from antlers though.
