Glad you liked it and you must! I have a carton of milk on my radiator as we type.

Do you make pancakes in Spain? Or rather, what are Spanish pancakes like?

Hi Sol, this is the Spanish version:

It´s made during Lent (there are many more like Bones of Saint, Borrachuelos (from borracho, drunk), donoughts, pestiños, torrijas...) We have a sweet teeth.

The one in the photo is called hojuela, you need that iron mould which is impregned in the liquid (egg, flour, milk and sugar) and fried in abundant olive oil.
Then you put over then a bit of powder cinnamon.

It´s my favourite Lent sweet.

Pestiños,Yummy! Yummy!

Whenever we travel down to the Alpujarra, I plead to be able to go slightly out of our way so that I can pick up a dozen pestiños from the bakery in Vélez de Benaudalla.

They're the best in Spain, I'm told. Do you know the place, Maria?

Pooh, I have been googling. All of those look yummy! I wonder where I could get one of those frying irons. Well, Spain obviously. I shall have to go.

Well, the iron mould is not so easy to find. I´ve been googling for a while, also, my sister wants to get one since the one she has is now a bit too old, it belonged to my mother, and she says that she still haven´t found any.

The place would be a ferretería, a shop where tools, screws, wires... are sold.
The blog from which I´ve linked the picture says that she finally found the mould in an old ferretería, sunk in a pile of dusty objects and the owner has no idea what it was for.

I´ll be happy to send you one if I find them. Believe me.smiley - smiley

Hi Paul,
I don´t know that village, however I´m used to see the name in the road signals every summer on my way to Almuñecar.smiley - cool

I guess you have enjoyed the piononos of Santa Fé. I think you can find them in a shop of delicatessen in Plaza Mayor, in Madrid. In that plaza there´s another shop that sells embutidos from Granada, La Cueva. Absolutely delicious. Try the morcilla achorizada or the salchicha.... feck! I love everything that fats!

There's nothing much special about Vélez de Benaudalla, apart from the pestinos...

Don't get me started on piononos, Maria - I've put on a fair bit of weight this winter already. We occasionally pick up a few piononos from Gerardo's bakery in Órgiva (you must know Órgiva, Maria).

I'll have to check out that deli in Plaza Mayor. I don't think I've ever had morcilla achorizada, and can't even imagine how it comes. Is it more like chorizo or morcilla? My brother-in-law visits his family in Burgos every few weeks, and always brings back plenty of morcilla de Burgos - in fact we had cocido yesterday. smiley - spacesmiley - smiley

Practically everything tasty is fattening. smiley - spacesmiley - shrug

Fattening or bad for the teeth. Often, both.

It's a shame about the iron things. I quite fancy having a go. I suppose the bakeries have a more industrial sized implement.

Russians do sausage. It's somehow more dried than Spanish/ Italian sausages I find. Nice though.
